First Tee is a youth development organization that enables kids to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges. By seamlessly integrating the game of golf with a life skills curriculum, we create active learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience that kids can carry to everything they do. The Shipwreckers Junior Golf Program, in partnership with First Tee – Palm Beaches, is designed for ALL young golfers ages 8–13 to learn the game while developing the strength of character to take on a lifetime of new challenges.

The six-week program runs Mondays from 4:30–5:30 p.m., October 12 through November 16, at Jonathan’s Landing – Old Trail in Jupiter. Participants will enjoy an engaging golf experience focused on skill development, sportsmanship, and personal growth.

Our country will never forget all those lost on September 11, 2001.

In Michael Finnegan’s words, golf is a game of honor. He played golf the same way he lived life; with honor.

He was a teacher of the game on and off the golf course. Friends, family and clients learned so much from Mike, not only by how he played the game of golf, but how he lived his life. They were in awe at how Mike made them all better golfers just playing the game with him. Some would say he made them better fathers and husbands just being with him.

Michael’s wife Erin was so touched by the outpouring of love and generosity shown to them from the country and the world in the aftermath of September 11, that they established the Michael B. Finnegan Foundation. The foundation’s mission has been to honor Mike’s memory and spirit by continuing his way of living life: giving generously.

The Michael B. Finnegan Foundation joined The Honda Classic as a Founding Partner of First Tee – Palm Beaches. Our organization has been offering golf instruction and our life skills curriculum to our community since 1988.

We named our 12-acre driving range and 9-hole par-3 golf course in Dyer Park “The Michael B. Finnegan Golf Learning Center” to honor Mike’s memory and legacy. With our combined efforts we help many children, teens, adults, veterans, and people with special needs discover the lessons Mike learned from the game of golf: Honor, Discipline, Competition, Patience and Camaraderie.

As a modern organization employing 2,400 people, the Breakers' sense of social responsibility extends to their team, their environment, and their community. The Breakers Palm Beach generously supports our Chapter in many ways. The Breakers Palm Beach strives to make a difference in the world. Through Volunteer Time Off (VTO), they empower their staff to use work time to volunteer, and to further inspiring their employees to inject energy and enthusiasm into the local community.

Mark Reid, a Chapter Director, brings his maintenance teams out and their equipment to the Michael B. Finnegan Learning Center multiple times per year to help us with agronomic and landscape projects. Mark and his team donate hundreds of hours each year. They are the reason our facility is maintained at the level of a private club.

In their last visit, the Breakers maintenance team aerified the greens, cut and laid sod, and raised valve boxes and irrigation heads.

Alumnae Asha Farrelly and Emily Valentine, LPGA attended the 2026 Game Changers Academy in Minneapolis Minnesota. Asha attended as a student and Emily as a chaperone. Out of all the nationwide chapters, Asha was one of 72 teens selected, and Emily was one of 16 coaches to attend.

During this amazing experience, the students and coaches played basketball in the Target Center, played golf at Interlachen Country Club, and attended a clinic hosted by Austin Smotherman.

AUGUST IS GOLF MONTH!

On Tuesday, the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners officially proclaimed August 2026 as National Golf Month, recognizing the game of golf and its positive contributions to health, recreation, tourism, youth development, environmental stewardship, and the local Palm Beach County economy.

Staff from our Chapter and from Palm Beach County Golf accepted the proclamation from Commissioner Maria Marino, who serves as a board member of our Chapter.

Longtime Chapter Participant, now an alumna and college scholarship recipient, Annika Collado, was presented with her ACE Certification Plaque. In our ACE program, students work on extensive projects that dive into their potential careers, education paths, community service, and the influence golf has in their life. Annika joins the 1% of students to achieve this feat.

About the program, Annika said, "The ACE program was such an incredible experience. ACE is a fun and engaging program because you apply the life skills and lessons from First Tee to learn more about yourself. I made great friends and served my community. Through my passion for golf, I learned about my future career and education. The ACE program showed how hard work can pay off in every aspect of my life.”

Annika is a sophomore at Florida Gulf Coast University majoring in psychology. We are proud of her achievements and know she has a very special future in college and beyond.

Did you know that our Chapter’s territory includes Clewiston in Hendry County in the Glades?

Our program location, Clewiston Golf Course, recently held a Junior Championship. From young golfers taking on the course to parents and families cheering them on, the 2026 Clewiston Boys & Girls Junior Championship was filled with competition and encouragement. Clewiston GC was proud to have welcomed these talented junior golfers to the links. Thank you to all the participants, parents, families, volunteers, and supporters who joined us.
