Two weeks until the interview questions get real.

What do you say when someone asks you to tell them about yourself? How do you talk about your strengths? And how do you make a great first impression?

These are the skills our Career Ready students have been building throughout the fall program.

On October 28th, they’ll get the chance to put them into practice at our Speed Interviewing event, sitting down with local professionals for a series of mock interviews, real-time feedback and conversations that help prepare them for future opportunities.

Because the first time you answer an interview question shouldn’t have to be when a job is on the line.

October 28th | Manatee Lagoon

Students, ready to build your confidence? Employers, ready to help shape the next generation of talent? We’d love to connect with you. Send us a DM to learn how to get involved!

Two weeks to go. Let’s get ready! ↗

“I want to be able to buy my parents a house.”

That was one student’s answer when Natasha Brooks from HCA Healthcare asked our Palm Beach Lakes students about their goals.

Her follow-up question? “What are you going to do if you don’t reach it?”

“I’m going to reach it. There is no other option.”

And Natasha’s response said it all: “That’s how you have to think.”

This week’s Mental Health & Wellness curriculum is about more than physical health. It’s also about mindset, setting realistic goals and developing the confidence and determination to work toward them.

Thank you to Natasha Brooks and HCA Healthcare for spending time with our students and encouraging them to think seriously about the futures they’re building.

Career Ready’s Achievers of Tomorrow Scholarship Breakfast & Awards is featured in the October issue of Palm Beach Illustrated, and seeing our students, supporters and this celebration of their futures take up a full page feels pretty dope.

The breakfast may have been one morning, but the reason behind it is much much bigger: investing in young people and making sure they have the support, connections and opportunities to keep moving forward long after graduation.

Thank you to Palm Beach Illustrated for helping share that work with our community.

Palm Beach County, we’re proud to be part of what you’re building. 💙↗

Sometimes the college comes to you.

Our Palm Beach Lakes students got a closer look at UCF when Eddie Ganzy from the University of Central Florida joined Career Ready for our College & Scholarship curriculum.

Because choosing a college is about a lot more than picking a name.

It’s asking questions. Understanding your options. Learning what colleges are looking for. And having someone in the room who can give you answers directly from the source.

That’s a big part of why we bring professionals into the Career Ready classroom. Our students get access to people who can help make the process feel a little less overwhelming and a lot more real.

And Gina may have summed it up best:
“Now the college came to you.”

A huge thank you to Eddie Ganzy and UCF for spending time with our Palm Beach Lakes students and bringing the college conversation directly to them.

Esther understood the assignment. 👏🏽

As a senior, she was aleady thinking about what comes after graduation, and already paying attention to the things that can make a very real difference when she gets here.

Credit scores. Budgeting. The true cost of college. Job opportunities. Resources available through Palm Beach State College.

And maybe our favorite part of hearing Esther talk about Career Ready is that she’s already thinking beyond high school.

Graduating prepared isn’t only about knowing where you want to go. It’s understanding the money, opportunities and resources that can help you get there and what you’ll need once you do.

We’ll let Esther have the last word:
“If you get the chance to join, you should join.” 💙↗

College planning looked a little different this week.

Dana Meve from Palm Beach State College worked with our students at Royal Palm Beach High School and Palm Beach Gardens Community High School as they started thinking through college, scholarships and what they actually want their next chapter to look like.

And at Royal Palm, Walker from Florida Atlantic University joined us to bring the college conversation directly into the classroom, giving students a chance to ask questions and get answers from the source.

There may have been paper plates involved. 😂But the goal was serious: get students thinking about college before it’s time to make the decision.

More questions now. Better decisions later. ↗

We’ll always make room for employers who want to invest in the next generation. 💙

Thank you Verdex Construction for sharing Chrissy with our Palm Beach Lakes students. Bringing professionals directly into the classroom is such an important part of Career Ready, and this is exactly the kind of connection we want our students making with Palm Beach County’s workforce.

And yes, we may have ruined “hard worker” as a standalone resume skill forever. 😂

Thank you for being part of Career Ready!

“How many of y’all know that your resume is fire?”

Tae put the question out there at Palm Beach Lakes, and then we brought in someone who actually knows what employers are looking for.

Chrissy Mayer, Human Resources Manager at Verdex Construction, joined our Career Ready students to break down what makes a resume stand out and, just as importantly, what doesn’t.

With more than 20 years of experience in HR, recruitment and employee relations, Chrissy gave students a look at their resumes from the other side of the hiring table.

One page. Make it count. Skip the generic “hard worker” and show what you’ve actually done. And remember, an employer may only spend seconds deciding whether to keep reading.

These are the kinds of conversations we want our students having before they’re sending that resume for the internship, job or opportunity they really want.

A huge thank you to Chrissy and Verdex Construction for investing in our students and bringing an employer’s perspective directly into the classroom.

Palm Beach Lakes, your resumes are officially getting a reality check. 😂↗
