💙 40 Watch Parties. One Powerful Message. A Movement for Change.

Across Florida and beyond, families, advocates, and community members came together to watch A Different Kind of Justice and discuss what a more humane, rehabilitative prison system could look like.

Through powerful conversations and shared experiences, participants explored the importance of human-centered leadership, dignity, rehabilitation, and meaningful reform within our correctional institutions.

Every conversation matters. Every voice deserves to be heard. And every step toward change begins with people willing to take action.

🎬 **WATCH PARTIES SPARK CHANGE!** 💙

Across Florida and beyond, **40 watch parties** brought people together to watch *A Different Kind of Justice* and discuss what a more humane, rehabilitative prison system could look like.

The documentary sparked meaningful conversations about leadership, accountability, dignity, and the urgent need for change within Florida's correctional institutions.

Here's what some of our watch party participants had to say:

“Advocacy season should start with a powerful documentary like A Different Kind of Justice as it was able to spark a desire to want to do something about the conditions Florida prisoners face.”

💬 **Marilyn Cavallo:**
“A Different Kind of Justice was a very informative movie. I am thinking that it would be a great movie for a Florida legislators watch party, with the new secretary Richard Comerford.”

💙 BE THE REASON SOMEONE FEELS HEARD.

Sometimes, making a difference starts with something as simple as listening.

For incarcerated individuals who don’t have loved ones on the outside, reaching out for help can feel overwhelming. Through the Securus messaging system, Florida Cares volunteers help ensure their questions, concerns, and requests for assistance don’t go unanswered.

We need compassionate volunteers who are willing to give just one hour a day, four days a week.

💻 A computer is required.

📚 Just one hour of training, offered on Tuesdays.

❤️ No special experience needed, just compassion, dependability, and a willingness to help.

Your time could be the reassurance someone needs to know they haven’t been forgotten.

You don’t have to be an expert. You just have to care.

Sometimes, making a difference starts with something as simple as listening.

**DID YOU KNOW?** 📢

People convicted of murder have some of the lowest recidivism rates among individuals released from prison.

According to a 2020 Notre Dame Law Review study, just **1.5% of individuals released between the ages of 45 and 54 reoffend.**

These numbers challenge the idea that people cannot change. Age, rehabilitation, personal growth, and the opportunity for a second chance all deserve consideration when discussing criminal justice reform.

At Florida Cares, we believe people should not be defined solely by their worst mistake. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and have the opportunity to demonstrate growth and change.

Basic human rights should never be treated as privileges.

Access to clean drinking water, working showers, safe temperatures, and adequate healthcare are basic necessities that every human being deserves, including those who are incarcerated.

Being sentenced to prison should not mean being subjected to inhumane living conditions. Accountability and rehabilitation can exist without sacrificing human dignity.

At Florida Cares, we believe what happens behind prison walls matters. Just because these conditions are out of public view doesn’t mean they should go unquestioned.

**Rehabilitation Requires Humanity.** 💙

True rehabilitation cannot happen without basic human dignity. Every person incarcerated deserves access to clean water, proper medical care, educational opportunities, and safe, humane living conditions.

These are not privileges. They are the foundation for meaningful change.

When we prioritize rehabilitation over unnecessary suffering, we create opportunities for individuals to grow, families to heal, and communities to become stronger.

**A prison sentence should never mean losing your humanity.**
