MEET ALISHA 💙 | Creative Designer behind UpStitch

Alisha has turned her love of sewing and upcycling into UpStitch, with appliqué and piecing among her favorite techniques.

She dreams of designing and making headbands to help hold NG feeding tubes — bringing together creativity and purpose to help others.

Alisha also generously volunteers her time at aZul, helping prepare for classes and show décor, and even assisting with teaching Follow The Thread. Her attention to detail and willingness to lend a hand make her one aZulmazing volunteer! 💙

When asked what she loves about aZul, Alisha shared:

“The programs and events have helped me grow and feel more confident in my abilities.”

We love watching Alisha grow, create, give back and share her talents through UpStitch.

Join us for our Follow The Thread Information & Sharing Session and discover how you can learn and grow together as a Sustainable Fashion Designer Team.

✨ Hear from parents who have experienced the program
✨ Meet Creative Designers — adults with disabilities who have completed Follow The Thread

💙 Inspired To… Create Something Sweet! 🧁

The Creatives who attended our ArtAbilities program this past month had a sweet hands-on experience at Earth & Sugar!

They measured their own cupcake batter, created fondant toppers, mixed their own icing colors, filled piping bags, and decorated their cupcakes from start to finish.

And, of course, everyone packed up their creations to take home and enjoy! 🧁💕

Afterward, we gathered for lunch at Fresa Con Crema Restaurant & Grill, where everyone enjoyed Venezuelan cuisine while sharing what inspired them most.

Behind every finished garment is a creative journey.

What starts as inspiration becomes a mood board. A mood board becomes a sketch. A sketch becomes a plan. New techniques are learned, confidence grows, and before long, an artistic garment comes to life.

These photos capture that journey—one that happens every day in our FashionAble 101 and Follow The Thread programs.

At aZul, we’re not simply teaching art or fashion. We’re helping adults with different abilities discover their creativity, build practical skills, solve problems, and experience the pride of seeing their own ideas become reality.

Meet Erika, one of our incredible aZul Creatives.

Behind every work of art is a person with a unique story, dreams, passions, and talents.

Erika loves painting, dreams of becoming a nurse, and says she feels happiest when she’s spending quality time with her family. When asked what she loves most about Azul - Fashion, Art & Design, Inc., her answer touched our hearts:

“Everyone accepts me for who I am. I’ve made lifelong friendships and I’m treated with respect and dignity.”

Those words remind us why creating spaces of belonging matters.
