Brianna is one of my South Florida neighbors. She was only 15 years old when she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in February 2016. Her cancer had aggressively spread to approximately 65% of her bone marrow.
During her seven months in the hospital, Brianna endured several rounds of chemo. Her doctor knew her best chance, however, was receiving a bone marrow transplant as soon as possible. This wonderful child fought a tougher battle than most of us could ever imagine.
Today, I’m happy to report that Brianna excels in school, maintaining a 4.0 grade point average. She loves competing in track and field. She's thankful for the great treatment she received and wants to pay it forward by becoming a doctor and helping others. Next winter, she begins taking dual college-level courses, giving her a head start toward achieving her goals.
