It all started at our 2023 Gala, when we met Proverb Newsome of Urban Youth Impact. In July 2025, a group of UYI high schoolers came out for a day on the water and this spring, it became something bigger.
After finishing a Learn to Swim program with Urban Youth, students from Carver Christian Academy (UYI's school) joined a twice-a-week afterschool Learn to Sail program this Spring 2026. We hit a few bumps, some sessions had to be canceled due to sargassum w**d, but the kids showed up, learned to sail, and are already asking when they can come back. We're planning to continue the program again next year!
None of this happens without support. A huge thank you to PBIBS and the Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County (MIA) — this program was made possible by their grant funding.
Swim lessons to sailing lessons to a lifelong love of the water. That's what we're building, one student at a time.
