There is an unfortunate but demonstrable disadvantage in low-income communities, where the drop-out rate is high, educational standards are much less than stellar and a pervasive, vicious cycle of ignorance prevails. There are few, if any, organizations focusing exclusively on education in job application, interview processes and professional etiquette. This program of free employability workshops, presentation and job training and software training sessions, is the brain child of Clover Henry-Gilroy, Founder & Chief Executive Officer of Perception Is Everything, Inc. Throughout her career in Management and Business Administration, Mrs. Henry-Gilroy saw a glaring need for applicants to know their weaknesses and have them addressed before applying for a job and appearing for an interview, hence giving them a chance to carve out their piece of the employment pie. We therefore also do business as (dba) P.I.E., Inc., providing interviewing & job application counseling to low-income job seekers and youth. Our target clients consist of low-income high-school and college students, graduates and drop-outs, at-risk youth, emancipated foster children, abused women in shelters, the homeless, our veterans, the unemployed, low-income citizens and the uninformed who are seeking employment.
We further our purposes under this program by assisting underprivileged citizens in preparing for employment, i.e., preparation, research using employment information sources, candidates' rights, interviewing techniques, proper business etiquette, language and grammar, proper attire and how to effectively sell one's skills and experience. We conduct the following activities to assist with comportment and conveyance in job search for low-income employment applicants and candidates: • Train in realistic career choices • Train in the job application process • Train in social media & the job search• Train in proper business grammar and communication • Train in appropriate telecommunication skills • Train in business etiquette • Train in interviewing techniques, rights of the applicant/candidate, mannerisms, do’s and don’ts while interviewing • Demonstrate proper business attire for the local area according to weather • Train in Microsoft Office Suite, Bookkeeping & Administrative Assistant Skills • Suggest skills to be learned for career path and recommend other facilities offering courses • Suggest employers (when possible) , recruiters, mentoring, motivational speakers or further counseling facilities • Scholarship
