Dear Residents,
Regarding the Temporary Flight Restrictions for the AIRPORT
Following last Sunday’s Zoom call, here is where things stand.
FAA UPDATE
● On September 2, the FAA proposed making the current flight restrictions and resulting flight paths permanent. (https://www.regulations.gov/docket/FAA-2026-10827)
● We have only 30 days to comment.
● If we do not submit our objections now, we lose the ability to challenge the rule later.

● It is extremely important that as many residents as possible submit official comments for the record.

● Briefly describe how the new flight paths affect you, then ask the FAA to consider one or more of the proposed solutions below.
● Please contact your neighbors and ask them to comment as well.
Town Council Meeting
● We need at least five residents at the Town Council meeting this Tuesday, September 8, at 9:30 a.m., to speak during public comment.
● Urge the Town to request an extension of the FAA’s 30-day comment period.
● Lew will make the extension request, but residents must speak too.
● Town Counsel will also update residents on the pending FAA case.
PROPOSED SOLUTIONS
● Lower the ceiling from 2,000 feet to 1,000 feet—the height originally requested by the Secret Service and approved for Trump Tower in New York. This could return 99% of outbound flights to their historic routes.
● Reduce the one-mile radius to a half mile, or use a more targeted shape.
● Direct a meaningful share of flights south.
● Remove flight restrictions when Trump is not in residence, particularly in summer when Mar-a-Lago is closed
● End this flight restriction in 2029 when Trump leaves office and is no longer President.
OUR PLAN
This effort requires several types of expertise:
● Organization: Meet with Nason Yeager to establish Palm Beach Quiet Skies, likely as a 501(c)(4), and address fundraising and donor privacy.
● Public campaign: Review final proposals and budgets from Align and Cornerstone for public outreach, including a website etc.
● Aviation: Meet with Vianair to develop credible alternatives for our FAA comments that protect both the Secret Service and residents.
● Legal and lobbying: Explore specialized legal and government-relations support.
POLITICAL SUPPORT
● County Commissioner Gregg Weiss, Congresswoman Lois Frankel, State Representative Emily Gregory and Lew Crampton understand the pain that residents are experiencing and have been terrific in their support of our efforts. We owe them our thanks.
● Commissioner Weiss has already requested an extension of the 30 day comment period.
● Congresswoman Lois Frankel be will holding a press conference on exactly this topic on Wednesday, September 9th at 11:30am.
Location and directions:
Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) has a public aircraft viewing area on the south side of the airport along Perimeter Road.
It has free parking, benches, some shade, and a good view of the main runway (10L/28R), making it a good spot to watch planes take off and land.
Directions: From Southern Boulevard, turn north onto Kirk Road, then right onto Perimeter Road. Continue about half a mile. The viewing area will be on your left, near Big Sky Aviation.
