The Florida Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers recently wrapped up its summer kids archery series in North Florida. Huge thanks to Tallahassee Archery Center for being such awesome hosts, as well as everyone who came out and volunteered. Congratulations to the Carlton family for winning our bow raffle!

Special shoutout to FL BHA Chapter Treasurer Eliot Silbar for spearheading this summer series of events, which introduced hundreds of kids across South, Central, and North Florida to archery, got them out and active, and introduced them to BHA.

Also, special thanks to the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida for providing the grant that made these events possible.

On August 18, 2026, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins announced that the Forest Service filed a proposed rule to completely rescind the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule. This proposed rule is a wholesale elimination of protections for more than 44.7 million acres of backcountry across 37 states (not including Idaho and Colorado, which have their own Roadless Rules).

In Florida, roadless areas in the Ocala, Osceola, and Apalachicola National Forests provide important habitat and some of our best opportunities to hunt, fish, and experience public lands away from roads and development. In a state where open land is increasingly scarce, these places are worth protecting.

New year. Same commitment. United We Stand for Public Lands is back for 2026, and the Florida Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers is all in. Check your politics at the door because public lands need us all. Let’s stand united to ensure our 250th was the year we remembered: Access is American. Stewardship is patriotic.

Thanks to everyone who showed up and helped make our Central Florida youth archery workshop a success!

No matter the weather, folks showed up ready to learn and take on our 3D course and make the day a memorable one. It was great meeting people interested in archery and the broader outdoors community. We enjoyed talking with everyone about BHA, public land opportunities, and ways to get kids more involved in outdoor activities. Huge thanks to our volunteers for being absolute rockstars and helping make the day happen.

We have a North Florida archery workshop coming up in the near future, so keep an eye out for more info soon.

Looking for a fun and free way to introduce kids to archery? 🏹

The Florida Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers will be hosting a youth archery workshop in Sanford, Florida, on June 20th, 2026.

Kids under 13 are invited to learn range safety, proper shooting form, and basic archery technique. Lessons are free, and equipment has been provided through a grant from the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida. We’re thankful for their support in helping more young people build safe, hands-on outdoor skills.

We’ll also be there talking with attendees about BHA’s work in Florida and across the country to protect, increase, and improve access to our wild public lands and waters.

Sessions will last roughly 1 hour and be scheduled from 9am-7pm. Kids under 13 can register for free (a parent must be present). Learn more at backcountryhunters.org/florida or the link in bio.

Thanks to everyone who came out last weekend to our youth archery workshop at the .

Over the weekend, more than 150 kids got the chance to learn the basics of archery, bow safety, and get some rounds in. We also got to talk with parents and attendees about BHA’s mission and the work being done to protect public lands and waters.

Thanks as well to everyone who bought raffle tickets and helped make events like this possible.

It was good to see so many families having a good time and to meet folks from across the outdoor community.

Thanks to and everyone who came out to the Make a Difference May/Public Lands Packout cleanup event in Ocala National Forest.

It takes real effort to show up and do the work, and that means a lot for the places we love to fish, hunt, and camp. Glad to see folks in the community of all ages stepping up and taking care of our public lands.

🏹 Congrats to Brody Millan of Wild Rivers Whitetails for winning our 1st wall of bows raffle!

Thank you to and everyone who came out to see us, support our youth archery workshop, and enter the raffle. We appreciate everyone who stopped by, asked questions, and helped support our mission to protect public lands and keep them public.

We still have two bows left to raffle off at future events, so keep an eye out for where we’ll be next.

Come out and join the Florida BHA Chapter and Heart of Florida at Fore Lake Campground on Saturday, May 2nd for a Make a Difference May event! We’ll be camping the night before on Friday, May 1st and venture into Ocala National Forest at 9 am on Saturday, May 2nd, to pick up trash and help restore the area’s natural beauty.

This event is open to the public and all ages and pets are welcome. Please wear appropriate clothing (pants, closed-toe shoes, hats, gloves, sunscreen, etc). It’s recommended to bring water and snacks for the hike.

All participants must RSVP and sign a waiver. Please carpool when possible due to limited parking. A potluck lunch will be available after the cleanup so please bring your favorite foods to share with the other attendees.

🦌 The Florida Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers is hosting an educational adult hunter deer camp in North Florida.

This is a limited availability DIY hunt camp for adults who want to gain experience scouting, sitting, making decisions, and taking responsibility in the field. Florida BHA board members and volunteers will be on site for safety, questions, and help with field dressing, but this is not a guided hunt.

The property is owned by The Future of Hunting in Florida and is used exclusively for educational hunting events. Multiple elevated blinds are placed near feeding and bedding areas, designed for a low pressure and safe learning environment.

Details:
📍Dates: 2/20 (5 PM) - 2/22 (1 PM), 2026
📍Cost: $150 for an individual blind or $200 for a two person shared blind
📍Costs go towards providing programming, mentors, property rental, and supporting BHA’s mission

Includes:
📍All Saturday meals + Sunday breakfast
📍Free tent camping, or $50 for a bunk space if available (BYO bedding; no electricity or running water provided)

Participants should be familiar with safety requirements and Florida hunting regulations. If you do not have an appropriate r***e, contact the coordinator and one may be available for rent.
