The Charmettes, Incorporated is a national civic organization. In 1981, the organization adopted a national thrust to eradicate cancer in our lifetime.

The Charmettes, Incorporated is a national civic organization that had its beginnings when friends Gwendolyn Baker Rodgers and Frankie Drayton Thomas recognized the need for an organization that would bring together women with similar ideas, principles and backgrounds to organize themselves to utilize their skills, talents and resources for community impact. They invited ten of their friends to jo

in them, and on June 17, 1951, the West Palm Beach Charmettes were created. The work of the initial chapter had immediate impact in the community, and soon new chapters were being developed throughout Florida and beyond. Our chapters are engaged in programs and activities that provide assistance to individuals and families in need in areas including: education, health, scholarship, and community development. In addition to our cancer awareness and education programs, we have contributed more than $600,000 to the Howard University Cancer Center in Washington, D.C., to support cancer research and services. In 2006, the chemotherapy infusion center was named, “The Charmettes, Inc. Gwendolyn B. Rodgers Chemotherapy Infusion Suite”, in honor of the long term support provided to the Howard University Cancer Center. Today, The Charmettes, Incorporated is a nationally recognized women’s community service organization, known for getting results and making a difference in the lives of African Americans and their communities. With 19 chapters active throughout Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., we are poised for even greater accomplishments in the future. Today, June 17, 2026, we proudly celebrate 75 Years of Undaunted Charm, Service, Sisterhood, and Excellence as the Palm Beach County Chapter of The Charmettes, Inc. — affectionately known as “The Mother Chapter.”

What began on June 17, 1951, in the home of our founders, Gwendolyn Baker Rodgers and Frankie Drayton Thomas, has blossomed into a legacy of community service, leadership, scholarship, and unwavering support for cancer research and awareness.

For 75 years, we have remained committed to uplifting our communities, empowering future generations, and living our cherished motto:

As we honor our founders, charter members, and every Charmette who has contributed to this remarkable legacy, we celebrate our past, embrace our present, and look forward to an even brighter future.

In Loving Memory of
Charmette Anna J. Davis

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, Charmette Anna J. Davis.

For fifty-two years, Charmette Davis faithfully served as a dedicated member of the Palm Beach County Chapter of The Charmettes, Incorporated, offering unwavering support and commitment to our mission. Her legacy is firmly rooted in a lifetime of service — as a devoted member of Grace Episcopal Church, an active participant in numerous community organizations, a proud retired educator with the Palm Beach County School District (1965–1998), a committed member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated, and a cherished sister of the Palm Beach County Chapter of The Charmettes, Incorporated.

The entire sisterhood of The Charmettes, Incorporated, joins together in mourning the loss of Charmette Davis. During this difficult time, we ask that you keep her family, friends, and all who loved her lifted in prayer.

May her spirit of service, grace, and sisterhood continue to inspire us all.
