Downtown residents just got a real seat at the table.

After weeks of advocacy around the Downtown Master Plan, Mayor Keith James invited DNA leadership and other neighborhood representatives to City Hall to discuss our concerns. What we expected to be a one‑off meeting turned into something bigger: the Mayor has asked our small group to serve as a long‑term resident advisory panel on the Downtown Master Plan.

Over the coming months, we’ll receive presentations from city departments on traffic and mobility, water and sewer, and other key data so we can make informed recommendations on how downtown grows. The Mayor’s chief of staff will attend, take notes, and formally relay our suggestions back to the Mayor. Most importantly, the Mayor has said there is no rush to push the plan through, and that the DAC will pause further action until our panel’s input is submitted.

For the DNA, this is a historic moment. It means resident voices are now formally embedded in the process—not just at the podium, but at the table. We’re optimistic, and we’ll keep downtown residents closely updated as the panel begins meeting later this month.

📩 Stay in the loop: follow the DNA and sign up for our newsletter so you know what’s being discussed—and how you can weigh in before decisions are made.

Downtown is changing. Help shape who guides it.

On Monday, July 6 at 5:00 PM, the City Commission will vote on four DDA appointments. The revised slate adds more downtown residents—but also includes two nominees with employment ties to Related Ross, our largest downtown developer.

If you care about balanced representation and independent governance, show up and speak on Agenda Item 7 – Appointments, or contact commissioners individually before the vote.
