🐢💚 Muffin is heading SOUTH! 🌊

After months of rehabilitation and lots of TLC, our sea turtle patient Muffin is getting ready for the next chapter of their journey: returning to the wild! 💙

Today, our AMSEAS team is transporting Muffin to our partners at Sea Turtle Recovery (STR) in New Jersey! Tomorrow, STR will transport Muffin, along with several other rehabilitated sea turtles from their facility, south to North Carolina for release! 🐢☀️

Muffin’s rehabilitation journey hasn’t always been easy. From overcoming injuries to receiving specialized veterinary care and ongoing treatments, this little turtle has come a long way! Seeing Muffin reach this milestone is a reminder of why we do what we do. 💪

💙 Marine conservation takes a village! A HUGE thank you to our incredible partners at Sea Turtle Recovery for coordinating this next step, East End Veterinary Center for providing specialized veterinary care, and our dedicated AMSEAS staff, interns, volunteers, and veterinary professionals who have helped Muffin throughout their recovery.

We are also incredibly grateful to the Andrew Sabin Family Foundation, The New York Community Trust, and the Defender Service Awards presented by Chase for supporting our mission and helping make our marine wildlife rescue and rehabilitation efforts possible!

Every successful rehabilitation and release is a testament to the power of collaboration, dedication, and a shared commitment to protecting threatened and endangered sea turtles. 🌎

We’re so proud of you, Muffin! Wishing you safe travels and plenty of ocean adventures ahead! 🌊💚

Sea Turtle Recovery brought three of our patients to Nautilus Avian & Exotics Veterinary Hospital in Brick, NJ to be examined by Dr. Applegate and Dr. Paluch. The tests determine next steps in their care and potential for release. Dede has severe pockets of infection in her lungs that we continue to battle. Marshoal has been given the okay for a release farther south to start his migration, and Riley Green's test are being further analyzed. More updates as we move forward! Come see us inside the Turtle Back Zoo.
Special thank you to all of the staff at Nautilus Avian and Exotic Veterinary Specialists and Dr. Applegate!

Have you smiled today? If not, then you should probably make sure that you are following Sea Turtle Recovery's Facebook and Instagram!

Shell is our featured sea turtle of the day. This juvenile Kemps Ridley had the worst lung field that we have ever seen. ( The X-ray photo is from arrival day at STR.) Without even being a doctor or understanding x-ray images, it is easy for you to still see that these lungs are not shaped in nice oval lobes.

Indeed, these lungs were heavily congested, and Shell was diagnosed with having both fungal pneumonia and a severe lung infection. It took several months and three antibiotic changes, but Sea Turtle Recovery did not give up.

The result: We think her release day smile, happy and healthy, says it all! The lungs are now fully healed, and she jetted into the ocean the minute she touched the sand. Please consider coming to our October Run or November Brunch. Your support is truly making a difference.
