Community members are invited to attend an upcoming informational meeting to help shape the launch of the new Kiwanis Club of West Orange.

Kiwanis is a global volunteer organization founded in 1915, with clubs in 87 countries. Its mission is improving the world, one child and one community at a time. Through partnerships with programs serving elementary school students through adults with disabilities, Kiwanis members make a meaningful impact locally and worldwide.

The new West Orange club aims to bring together residents, business leaders, educators, and community stakeholders who are passionate about serving children and strengthening the community.

Programs supported by Kiwanis include:

Aktion Club – Adults with disabilities

Circle K International – College and university students

Key Club International – High school students

Builders Club – Middle school students

K-Kids – Elementary school students

Members also support Young Children Priority One (womb to age five), BUGS (Bringing Up Grades), Terrific Kids (Character Development), and Key Leader (Leadership Retreat for Teens ages 14–18).

All interested residents are encouraged to attend and learn how they can be part of this exciting new chapter in West Orange.

The Kiwanis Club of West Orange donated winter jackets and toys to students at Hazel Avenue Elementary School in West Orange, helping to meet urgent needs in the school community as winter approached.

Kiwanis Club of West Orange Donates Winter Jackets and Toys to Hazel Avenue Elementary School

WEST ORANGE — The Kiwanis Club of West Orange donated winter jackets and toys to Hazel Avenue Elementary School, helping meet an immediate need identified within the local school community.

The donation was accepted by Joel A. Castillo, Ed.S., principal of Hazel Avenue Elementary School, from Frank Cahill, Governor of the New Jersey District of Kiwanis International. The contribution came as the Kiwanis Club of West Orange is in the process of forming and conducting a needs assessment to determine how best to support children and families in the community.

During that assessment, organizers learned that Hazel Avenue Elementary School had a need for winter clothing and toys for students. Cahill, working alongside Jessica Almeida, Lt. Governor of the New Jersey District of Kiwanis International, coordinated the collection of items and personally delivered them to the school.“Kiwanis is about seeing a need and taking action,” Cahill said. “As we work to establish a new Kiwanis Club in West Orange, our focus is on supporting children right here in the community and making an immediate, positive impact.”

Kiwanis, along with their student leadership programs, are helping a nearby school ensure all the families have the ability for a happy holiday season. I was contacted on Tuesday about helping run a food collection for them. We are starting a club here in town and having our second meeting on 11/20 @ 6:30pm at the Castle Rock 440 Main Street, West Orange NJ. Come out and learn more about Kiwanis and help us get to 15 charter members or organize.
