come down to the Valley early & n make it a full cultural evening of art & stage!
IT'S OPENING NIGHT! Join us for this extraordinary story of courage and resistance - starring Joel de la Fuente, written by Jeanne Sakata, and directed by Lisa Rothe - inspired by civil rights pioneer Gordon Hirabayashi, who defied the U.S. government’s forced incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII.
As a graduate student at University of Washington, Hirabayashi refused the US government’s orders to forcibly remove and incarcerate all people of Japanese ancestry on the West Coast. As he struggled to reconcile his country’s betrayal with his passionate belief in the U.S. Constitution, he began a journey of principled resistance that would take him all the way to the Supreme Court.
