💜 Important Update on the 4th Annual Girls’ Night Out 💜

Friends, this isn’t an easy post to write.
Back in June, I shared how heavy this year has been, personally. At that time, I wasn’t sure if I could pour into this year’s event, but I took a step of faith and tried.

The truth is, between getting sick, my family, and everything life has thrown at me over the last several months, I simply don’t have the capacity to give this event the time and energy it requires and deserves. Ticket sales also got a late start, and with my focus being pulled in so many directions, we’re not in the position to make this year’s Girls’ Night Out what it should be.

After a lot of reflection, prayer & melt downs, I’ve made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Girls’ Night Out event. I’ve been limited by time, heartbreak, and the weight of many battles these last months. I’ve realized that sometimes the strongest thing we can do is step back, breathe, and give ourselves space to heal.

đź’ś For those who have already purchased tables, we will be issuing refunds in the coming days

💜 Please also stay tuned in October, we’ll still be raffling off the designer purses online to raise money for the foundation, since those bags have already been purchased.

đź’ś Kacie has made tons of Sugie Lane Foundation freshies those will be sold as well.

I also want to take a moment to recognize Kacie, who has poured her heart into this year’s event. She designed the new display for the courthouse lawn, and together we’ll be going in front of Commissioners Court next week to seek approval for October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month. While the banquet isn’t happening this year, awareness and action in our community will still move forward.

This work is not easy, but it is important. I will continue to carry my mom’s name and story forward, and with your love and support, the mission of the Sugie Lane Foundation will carry on.

Thank you for understanding and for always standing with us.

As some of you may know, my father, Rogelio Guerra Vasquez, brutally murdered my mom, Sugie Lane Vasquez.

It’s been 27 long years, and he is still on the run, hiding in Mexico.

On New Year’s Eve, I learned one of Rogelio’s sisters had passed away. To my surprise, Rogelio’s name was listed in the obituary as a “surviving sibling.” 👀 But how? How do they know he’s “surviving” when, for 27 years, they’ve claimed not to have a clue where he is? They act as though he vanished from the face of the earth. I WAS PI**ED.

Meanwhile, his other sister, brother, and even his father—who have passed away since my mom’s murder—were correctly listed under “preceded in death.” Someone is keeping track of him, keeping up the lineage. Y’all, 27 years. And my mom? She was their sister-in-law for 20 years. Where was her name?

Let me remind everyone—Rogelio has family living right here in Southeast Texas. They knew what he did before I even did, and yet they continue to choose silence.
It wasn’t just the painful reminder that he’s still out there—it was the crushing realization that his family chooses silence, no matter the reality or the extent of what he did. That moment broke my heart for my mom. She meant so little to them in life, and even now, they choose to shield the man who took everything from her. WHEN IS IT HER TURN TO BE PROTECTED AND CHOSEN?!?

With that thought, I knew what I had to do. While they choose silence and Rogelio hides in the shadows, I am choosing to speak out about things I never thought I would share publicly.
I’ve created two websites dedicated to Rogelio and his lineage—one in English and one in Spanish. They include a family tree, clickable links, and a clear picture of who he is and the devastation he he did. My goal is to ensure he can no longer hide behind silence and family protection.
Building these websites was emotionally exhausting. Rereading my mom’s diary nearly broke me, and deciding to share a page of it—her raw, vulnerable feelings—was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. But to show the world how he shattered her, it was necessary.

For days, I cried, wishing I could hug my mom and tell her how much I love her, how loved she truly was—even though she couldn’t feel it because of HIM. I know she’s in a place now where she no longer feels pain, but the fact that she felt so unloved here on earth because of him hurts like hell. And the fact that they choose to protect that monster over her? It’s a pain I can’t put into words.
When it got too hard, I reminded myself of one thing: my mom had it so much worse. I’m here, alive, and able to share her story. My mom isn’t—because of HIS HANDS.

The FBI has a $10,000 reward for Rogelio. I’ve asked them to increase it, but nothing came of it. Fine—I made a GoFundMe to raise the reward for information leading to his capture. His family will never talk—they’ve proven that. Again, they knew my mom for 20 years, and she didn’t matter to them. My suffering doesn’t matter to them. But money talks, and it might motivate someone else to speak up.
Here is what I’m asking: I know last year was hard for many people, and not everyone can give—but even a simple share could make all the difference. Tag a news station. Tag Mexican news stations. I’m willing to do interviews. You never know who might see it on your friends list and know something.

My mom, Sugie, lost her voice when her life was taken—but I haven’t. WE HAVEN’T.

I want to take a moment to sincerely apologize to everyone who attended our recent event and may have felt uncomfortable or disappointed by some of the content shared by a guest speaker. The evening was intended to focus on raising awareness for domestic violence and the work of the Sugie Lane Foundation. Unfortunately, some moments did not reflect that purpose.

I acknowledge that the guest speaker deviated from the intended message, and for that, I am deeply sorry. Your feedback has been heard, and moving forward, we will be more diligent in ensuring that all speakers align with the mission of the foundation and maintain the integrity of the event.

The goal of this event, and all we do, is to support and empower victims of domestic violence, and I regret that this year's speaker may have shifted away from that focus. I appreciate everyone's understanding and continued support of the foundation as we strive to improve and learn from this experience.

Thank you for your feedback and for standing with us in our mission.
