⚽🇮🇶🇳🇴 The beautiful thing about community is that kindness rarely ends where it begins.
A few weeks ago, the Scandinavian Cultural Center & Library received a generous donation of two tickets to the FIFA World Cup match between Iraq and at Gillette Stadium.
At Boston’s Norwegian Constitution Day flag raising this spring, I was moved by the story shared by Mohammed Missouri from Mayor Michelle Wu's office. As a child, Mohammed fled Iraq and found refuge in Norway before eventually building a life here in Boston. His story spoke to the profound ways that countries, cultures, and communities can shape our lives.
When these tickets arrived, I found myself thinking about that story.
Rather than simply giving the tickets away, we saw an opportunity to continue a cycle of connection and generosity. Yesterday, thanks to our donor’s gift, a local Iraqi refugee and his brother attended the Iraq vs. Norway World Cup match together.
What began as a gift of two tickets became something larger: a chance to celebrate heritage, belonging, and the unexpected ways our lives intersect across borders and generations.
At the Scandinavian Cultural Center & Library, we believe culture is ultimately about people—the stories we share, the communities we build, and the bridges we create between one another.
To our generous donor, to Mohammed for sharing his story, and to everyone who helps create a more welcoming world: thank you.
