To honor the 50th anniversary of the release of a movie that couldn’t be more of this moment, Ty Burr’s Movie Club will show Robert Altman’s NASHVILLE (1975) on Thursday, June 12 at 6:30pm . With a cast of 24 characters milling in and out of the title city on the eve of a gala concert for a political outsider, NASHVILLE represented the peak of Altman’s mid-1970s run and an acrid, empathetic commentary on an America coming apart at the seams. With Lily Tomlin, Keith Carradine, Ronee Blakely, Karen Black, Barbara Harris and Henry Gibson performing original songs and Shelley Duvall, Michael Murphy, Jeff Goldblum and Geraldine Chaplin in non-singing roles, NASHVILLE is like eavesdropping on a country trying to reassure itself it’s not a violent, dysfunctional mess. Funny? At times. Heartbreaking? That, too. Altmanesque? Absolutely.

Hey you guysssss…The Goonies is back on screen this Sunday (6/8) for a 40th anniversary screening brought to you by and Gen X Movie Club.

Join us for this all-ages show, and stay for the discussion afterwards as Brad will read selections from the official novelization of The Goonies, discuss previously unknown missing and deleted scenes, reveal what became of all of the characters after the credits rolled, and invite all of our audience to join him in reciting The Goonies Oath and become full-fledged members of The Goonies!

Tomorrow We’re thrilled to spotlight two films by acclaimed Boston-based documentary filmmaker Allie Humenuk.

Shadow of the House (2007) offers a rare and intimate portrait of celebrated photographer Abelardo Morell (), exploring how themes of exile, identity, and memory shape both his life and work. Morell will join us in person to discuss the film and his artistic journey.

Afterwards, we’ll also screen The Guys Next Door (2016), a deeply moving documentary that follows a Newton family formed through gay marriage and surrogacy. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the directors and Rachel Segall, one of the film’s subjects.
