This month, Hunger Task Force welcomed 623 volunteers into our warehouse to help us pack 9,280 emergency food boxes for older adults across Wisconsin and sort 60,000 lbs. of healthy food we received through community donations! 👏👏👏

Hunger Task Force was honored to receive the Community Star Award from our friends at COA Youth & Family Centers at their annual gala, celebrating COA’s milestone 120th anniversary and more than a century of strengthening Milwaukee’s children, families and communities.

Food security is foundational to family well-being, and COA’s work supporting children, youth and families aligns closely with Hunger Task Force’s mission to ensure every person has access to healthy food with dignity.

We are grateful to COA Youth & Family Centers for this recognition and for its continued investment in Milwaukee’s children and families.

This National Farmers Day, Hunger Task Force is celebrating our entire Farm team for the hard work, expertise and dedication that bring fresh, healthy food to our community.

Meet Adam Romanak, Farm Operations & Natural Areas Manager. Adam is especially proud of The Farm’s cover cropping program, which improves soil health, reduces synthetic inputs and supports more sustainable crop production.

As Adam puts it, success means “leaving the fields and natural areas in a better condition than how we found them.”

Today, we celebrate ! Healthy soil, sustainable growing practices and fresh produce for our community all start with the dedicated people behind The Hunger Task Force Farm.

Meet Jordan Leitner, Farm Sustainability Manager. Jordan helps lead efforts to improve soil health and make farming more sustainable. Through practices like long-term crop rotation and reducing synthetic inputs, Jordan and the team are building healthier soil and growing stronger crops season after season.

As Jordan explains, “Healthy soils grow healthier, more nutrient dense crops.”

We’re proud of Jordan and our entire Farm team for their commitment to sustainable agriculture and growing fresh produce that reaches our network of local food pantries, meal programs and shelters completely free of charge.

Earlier this week, we welcomed our friends and partners from Sargento Cheese, the Green Bay Packers, Paul's Pantry, Rooted & Rising - Washington Park and Project Concern Community Center to The Farm for the Sargento Touchdowns for Hunger Day of Action.

Through Touchdowns for Hunger, Sargento donates $2,000 for every touchdown scored by the Packers, turning points on the field into support for hunger relief across Wisconsin.

A special thank you to Packers kicker #38 Lenny Krieg for rolling up his sleeves and joining us in the orchard! 🧀🏈

Today, parents and guardians of students at St. Augustine Preparatory Academy got a hands-on lesson learning how healthy fats can help keep growing brains and hearts strong.

Our Community Nutrition Manager introduced the basics of the Hunger Task Force "Your Plate" nutrition model and shared how families can easily and affordably add more healthy fats into everyday meals. Parents also got to try homemade hummus and take easy recipes they can make at home!

Our community nutrition education is structured to give families practical tools they can use to make healthy choices that fit their lifestyles, budgets and tastes.

For Catherine Stagmer at Komatsu Mining, supporting Hunger Task Force is about more than volunteering. It’s about bringing coworkers together to give their time, skills and energy to a mission that directly strengthens Wisconsin communities.

From packing Stockboxes for older adults to getting hands-on at The Farm, Cathy has helped make Komatsu’s commitment to Hunger Task Force tangible. Her leadership and enthusiasm are part of what makes this partnership so meaningful.

We’re proud to feature Cathy as our latest Friend of Free & Local and to recognize the people who turn corporate partnerships into community action.

Since 2010, Cathy Stagmer and the team at Komatsu have dedicated dozens of volunteer hours annually to help Hunger Task Force harvest fresh produce at The Hunger Task Force Farm and pack food boxes for older adults in our warehouse in West Milwaukee.

It's National Farm to School Month, and we're taking this opportunity to recognize the impact Hunger Task Force's Garden to Plate program plays in helping students build lifelong connections between healthy food and local agriculture.

🥕 This past year, Garden to Plate reached over 700 students from across nine local schools!

Through Garden to Plate, local third through fifth grade classrooms participate in a hands-on experience that moves from their classroom to the Hunger Task Force Farm and into the McCarty Education Kitchen. Students learn about nutrition, tend to dozens of varieties of fruits and vegetables in our 28-bed School Garden, and prepare healthy recipes using skills they can bring home.

By giving students opportunities to grow, harvest, cook and taste food for themselves, we’re helping make healthy eating tangible while building knowledge and confidence that can last beyond the school year.
