Our Hunger Relief Federation Organizer Mark Lisowski visited Waupaca County to present at the Be Well Waupaca County Food Access Network meeting. He shared information about the Federation and simple yet impactful ways Wisconsinites can make their voices heard and advocate for anti-hunger policies at the local and state level.

“I appreciate the opportunity to connect with our partners in Waupaca County and elsewhere to continue to build our statewide coalition of anti-hunger advocates,” says Mark. “It’s important for partners from across Wisconsin to be empowered to speak to the food security challenges of their communities and I’m proud to help them in that effort.”

At Hunger Task Force, Inc., we advocate at all levels of government. This year leaders in Washington D.C. are going to determine the future of many programs for years to come.

As a leading anti-hunger and public policy organization, we are asking members of Congress to support strong anti-hunger and agricultural policies across the board, and our Hunger Relief Federation of Wisconsin partners agree.

Our good friend Pete French at Prescott Area Food Pantry does wonders for his community.

Prescott is a city in Pierce County where they serve over 50 families per month. They're open three days a week, plus the third Saturday of the month.

Recently they have expanded to include a fundraising meal site (the "Lunch Box Cafe") open five days a week connected to the food pantry that benefits their operations.

Over the years we have been honored to have him as a member of the Federation, and Hunger Task Force, Inc. helping to expand their capacity by providing needed infrastructure to store food for their clients.

If you're in the area, stop by and say "hi" to Pete like we always do. He always has great stories to share!

Remember summer? We do!

One of our many visits to The Neighbors' Place in Wausau, located in Marathon County.

Their pantry ("The Market") is open four days a week and serves over 2,000 guests per month through a client-choice shopping model. Guests shop The Market with the guidance of one of their friendly volunteers, selecting foods based on household size.

They also operate "The Babies' Place" that supplies menstrual hygiene products and infant formula in addition to diapers and infant hygiene products.

The staff at The Neighbors' Place are a fantastic group, an outstanding partner of Hunger Task Force, Inc. and member of the Federation. They were even a "Member Highlight" at our Federation Summit!

If you are nearby and need assistance, they are there to help.

Mark, the Federation Organizer, was happy to meet with Mary Smith at Shepherd's Watch Community Center in Mattoon - a village in Shawano County.

Shepherd's Watch has been a member of the Federation since 2021 and serves 50 families twice a month.

While Mary is now retired, the work she did continues and we are proud to support them as part of our statewide network. If you need assistance and are near Mattoon, they are there to help!

Last fall we hosted the Hunger Relief Federation Summit, and we're still feeling inspired! Hunger Task Force, Inc. brought together over 100 anti-hunger leaders from 29 Wisconsin counties for a 2-day summit in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, providing a much-needed space to make connections and brainstorm solutions to address hunger in their communities.

Explore some key takeaways through our Summit recap blog: https://www.hungertaskforce.org/.../10/09/hrf-summit-wrapup/

For many organizations working independently, the Summit was a powerful reminder that while we serve different communities, we're all in this together. The connections made and ideas shared are already shaping our collective efforts to create a hunger-free Wisconsin.

We're excited for the 2025 Federation Summit this fall!

It has been a while since we've posted, and we have so much to share!

This last year alone our Federation team drove over 10,000 miles across Wisconsin to meet with current members and build new partnerships 🚗

We even hosted our first statewide Federation Summit since 2019 in Stevens Point with over 100 anti-hunger advocates coming together to learn from expert panelists and share experiences.

We have a lot of work that we're going to be sharing with you, so stay tuned! 2025 is going to be even bigger than last year 🎉

Dear Friends of the Badger Box,

We are writing to regretfully inform you that the Joint Finance Committee of the State Legislature voted last night to terminate Food Security grants.

What we know right now is that as of Wednesday, the budget committee in Madison was going to fund the program under the Department of Agriculture. However, the funding in the budget was removed the day the committee took the vote yesterday. There is no amendment that can be made to this process.

We appreciate the impact that this will have on your communities and people. We know this is hard news.

Sherrie Tussler, the Executive Director of Hunger Task Force has assured us that about $2M in food funds remain for Badger Box. We are developing a plan for where these food funds will be spent and what communities will receive Badger Box into the future, based upon critical need. If your community or program can stop receiving Badger Box, please let us know this so we can provide direct aid to communities that still lack adequate resources post pandemic.

Hunger Task Force pledges to advocate for funding through other means, and we will continue to push for better policies to help our agriculture industry and communities in need. Please reach out to us with questions and watch for a message next week on actions you can take with us to secure a better future for both your community and Wisconsin Agriculture.

We are thankful for your partnership.
