One Paw at a Time Rescue

One Paw at a Time Rescue 501c3 Nonprofit animal rescue located on West Milford NJ. Once they arrive, they are vetted and screened for proper placement in foster homes.

As a 501c3 nonprofit organization we pull unwanted or abused dogs from southern shelters and midwest Puppy mills to give them the chance at a better life. We work with numerous city and state shelters along with transport companies to ensure these dogs are safely transported to the NJ / NY area. Dogs are socialized and learn to adapt in home settings with a structured schedule. Once observed by st

aff for a few days, these dogs are ready for adoption. All applicants are required to fill out an application. Once your application is received we will complete a vet and reference check. If approved, yiu will get a call from a team member to go over the adoption process and to set up a meet n greet. All of the pups are located in Stony Point NY or Butler NJ

Everyone wants a puppy but some look for an older pup out of the " teething" phase...

Well here you go.....
We get asked all the time for older pups and now we have them with Zero applications

All are hypoallergenic
All are doing great with Crate and Potty training
Perfect time to mold their personalities

I woke up this morning to a call from our board president lowering adoption fee for most of our pups...
THIS WILL ONLY BE FOR ADOPTIONS FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY...

We have never lowered our fees before and this might be the only time we do....

We have alot of pups remaining and more coming in next week, so lowering the fees this weekend will help get some adopted so we are not too overwhelmed with more coming in

We cant believe Martini and Margarita are still available....

These 2 girls are 7 months old
They both weigh under 5 pounds
They are Pappillon / Toy Poodle *** These are breeds not common in rescue...
They LOVE to be held
They will sit in your lap all day
100% princess
Prefer human food over dog food
Love being brushed and pampered
We are looking to place them etheir together or seperate into homes where someone is home with them. Both girls are not happy left alone for long periods of time
Both prefer sleeping in bed with a human over being crated

If your not going to commit and give a dog longer than 48 hours to settle in DO NOT ADOPT A DOG.....

Poor Charlie was adopted on Thursday afternoon and will be retuned today.
Charlie spent 4 months in foster, so going into a new environment with new people was scary for him. Charlie was nervous and skittish around the kids ( he only met them Friday afternoon )
I cannot stress enough that some pups take time to de compress and settle in.
We know Charlie very well, he is a goofy, silly pup. Not aggressive. He is 6 months old, still a baby.

We will take Charlie back today at our adoption event in Ringwood and we will hope another family comes to give him more of a chance.

Our team is frustrated, sad, angry, and disappointed.
I just dont understand why someone would adopt a dog, only to return him within 48 hours because he is not yet " the perfect pup "

BEAR ADOPTED 5/8/26

Lets Welcome Bear into the rescue....

Bear was a recent owner surrender. She is a 9 month old Shiba Inu - possibly mixed with Akita
Bear weighs 35 pounds
Bear will see the vet on Wednesday to receive vaccines, a microchip and will be put on flea and tick prevention and heartworm prevention.
This girl is amazing, she loves other dogs and is completely potty trained
Shiba's have a good amount of energy, so exercise and structure will be important
Bear came into the rescue very scared and took a day or so to de-compress and get comfortable. Everyday we see more of her silly and playful personality come out. Bear loves toys and will usually have s toy in her mouth walking around waiting for someone to play with her.
This girl is a GEM.... and will be a great addition to an active family

4/3 - BELLA WAS ADOPTED

Lets Welcome Bella into the rescue

Bella was recently surrendered to us from a family who had zero clue how to take care of a dog. Bella was never seen by a vet, was surrendered to us covered in ticks and deeply matted.

Bella received a bath, hours of tick removal, a haircut, vaccines and microchipping this week. Plus she is now on flea and tick prevention

Bella is a 1 year old female mini poodle. She weighs 19 pounds and is such a happy girl.
Bella was left alone for hours in her previous home, she craves human attention and loves giving and getting kisses. Bella has not had much socializing with other dogs, she is fostered with a French bulldog and a Standard poodle and she is fine with them.
Bella would be great with kids, as long as they are dog savy. She doesnt have much manners and can be alittle jumpy

Bella is a gorgeous silver / black colored pup. She is always smiling and loves toys. Bella warmed up to me within 10 min of meeting her. She is a great dog, she just needs alittle guidance and structure

A spay contract will need to be signed
