The biggest fear parents of children with special needs has is “What will happen to my child when I am no longer able to care for him or her?” For so many, Promise is a dream come true. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that was designed to provide affordable, independent housing for adults with cognitive and physical disabilities utilizing public and private partnerships to develop a model comm

unity. Located in West Melbourne, Florida, the Promise in Brevard affordable housing community, founded in 2014, is enhanced by Promise’s Resident Community Program, which features more than 60 activities per week for residents to choose from, including a variety of life skills classes to help pave the pathway for a future of independence. Promise also offers a Vocational Training & Employment Program with access to an on-site Employment Specialist to help connect each resident with a long-term career in the field of their choice. Currently, more than half of our residents are employed at 30 area businesses, including our own social enterprises, our Promise Treasures Thrift Shoppe at the corner of 192 and Wickham Road; Aves' Place Ice Cream at West Melbourne Community Park; Sweet Sue's Salon at the Promise in Brevard Main Campus; and the Promise Hydroponic Garden. Other enterprises include our Promise Creative Arts Center; and our Promise Doggie Treats and Soy-Based Candle businesses. Currently, Promise is the first of its kind in the state of Florida to combine all of these elements and amenities. We believe it will serve as a model that can be replicated in communities across the country and even the world.
