This question continues to come up, so let’s clarify it again:

This is not the military, and an Installation Ceremony is not a Change of Command Ceremony.

Our organization operates under the VFW National Bylaws, Ritual, and Manual of Procedure. Those documents exist for a reason — to provide structure, consistency, and accountability within the organization.

The bylaws are written to protect the organization from us, personal interpretations, and unnecessary conflicts. If there is confusion on procedure, the answer is simple: read the bylaws and follow them.
