A tiny goldenrod stowaway! ☀️

I almost walked right past this Goldenrod Stowaway Moth (Cirrhophanus triangulifer) the other morning! It was perched on its host plant, Bearded Beggarticks (Bidens aristosa), and its camouflage was so good in the morning sun that I didn’t notice it at first.

Moments like this are a great reminder that native plants are much more than something pretty to look at. Many insects depend on specific plants for food and shelter, creating important connections throughout our ecosystems.

When invasive plants take over, they can crowd out those native plants and remove resources that insects and other wildlife depend on.

Native plants support native insects, and it’s all connected!

Next time you’re outside, slow down and take a closer look. You never know what might be hiding in plain sight!
