The West Jefferson Alumni Committee voted last night to have the Alumni banquet at our usual date on Saturday, May 1. It was a decision made with much thought and consideration. We are praying things will be much better by that time. We will be following Covid safe guidelines.
If you’re already on the mailing list, your letter will be mailed sometime during the first of March. See message below if you or someone you know needs to be added to the mailing list.

Attention West Jefferson Alumni (Elementary or High School): If you attended or graduated from WJ and are not on the Alumni mailing list......please private message me with your name&address. I would be glad to forward your info to the Alumni Committee’s Secretary that handles updating the mailing list.

As many of you already know Mr. Eugene Weems passed away yesterday. He was a beloved teacher to so many of us who went to West Jefferson High School. He may have taught biology, but in the process taught us so much more! His students remembered his daily quotes and have used them on their kids! I knew him as a friend of the family (and his whole family). Him and my dad were such good friends. They worked together doing carpentry (and other things) as a side job through the years and oh the crazy funny stories they told! Mr Weems (with his science knowledge and common skills) could rig up anything and make it work! He is proceeded in death by Della (his wife), Sandra (his daughter) and Marvin (his son). His surviving daughters: Janice and Susan. He loved his family fiercely....they have such sweet and funny stories of him. Oh Mr. Weems your legacy will for sure live on......Sonya Nix

The WJHS Alumni Banquet will be held on May 5th, 2018 with dinner being served at 5:00pm in the gym. If you did not receive a letter from The Alumni Board, please contact Zelda at WestJefferson Town Hall at 205 674-3219. If you have a change of address, please do the same. Please join us on the above date to visit with old friends. Also allow time to visit the changes being made and the restoration of our class rooms! You will be glad you did! Looking forward to seeing you there!

We were saddened to hear of the loss of Billy Ray Powell around 12:30 last night. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Shirley Brasfield Powell and her family. Shirley served faithfully on The WJHS Alumni Board for many years.
