LARRY ISN’T WASTING ANY TIME. 🖊️

It’s Friday, the start of a long holiday weekend…and apparently Larry decided this is the perfect time to find himself a family. ❤️

In fact, he’s already sitting beside the adoption contract with the pen ready to go. 😂 All he needs now is YOU.

If you’ve been thinking about adding a new best friend to your family, maybe this is your sign. Larry would be more than happy to help you with the paperwork. 😉

Because according to Larry, there’s really no reason to put this off until Tuesday. 🐾❤️

❤️THEIR VILLAGE SHOWED UP. NOW WE NEED A LITTLE HELP FROM OURS. ❤️

Yesterday was one of those days in rescue when there was no time to make a plan.

There was only: We need help. Now.

Kathy and Tammy went out to a property where a growing population of cats has become more than the residents can manage. They are doing the best they can, but several kittens are struggling with significant health issues, and two were in such critical condition that they could not wait.

Then the text messages started. 📱

📱 “Who can get them to the emergency vet right now?”
❤️Mike said yes.

The ER was incredibly busy, which meant another message:

📱 “Who can pick them up when they’re discharged so Mike doesn’t have to wait for hours?”
❤️Karen said yes.

And then:

📱 “If they can leave the hospital tonight, who can take them home?”
❤️Priscilla said yes.

Because all of these people said yes, both kittens were stabilized, received the emergency treatment they desperately needed, and made it safely into foster care last night.

But their fight isn’t over: One kitten is expected to need both eyes removed. The other will need one eye removed, and we are hopeful the remaining eye can be saved.

That’s three eye-removal surgeries, on top of yesterday’s emergency care and the continued treatment these babies will need.

We will do everything we can for them, but we’re going to need our community beside us. We also hope to help more of the cats and kittens on this property as foster space and resources allow.

Yesterday, two very sick kittens needed a village, and a team of Ashe Humane Society volunteers said yes. Their village showed up. Now we need a little help from ours.

👇 Please Click the DONATE button below to help with their emergency care, surgeries and continued treatment. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps us keep saying YES when an animal needs us most. 🐾❤️

🐾 28 CATS SPAYED & NEUTERED IN JUST 6 DAYS! ❤️

Last Friday, 16 cats headed out on the Ashe Humane Society transport for spay/neuter surgeries, and today 12 more made the same trip!

That’s 28 cats in just 6 days, and behind every single carrier is a whole lot of teamwork.

A huge thank you to Jacky, who drove last Friday’s transport, and to Krystal and Jeremy, who made today’s trip. And an extra thank you to Krystal, who coordinates these transports and keeps so many moving pieces organized behind the scenes! ❤️

These transports include AHS foster animals, pets from families in our community, and community cats being cared for by people working hard to reduce our feral cat population.

There are foster families getting animals ready, people setting and checking traps, neighbors helping neighbors trap, volunteers coordinating appointments and transportation, and people making sure these animals are cared for before and after surgery.

It takes so many people to make those 28 surgeries happen.

To everyone who drove, trapped, fostered, coordinated, helped a neighbor, cared for a community cat, or simply made sure an animal got where they needed to be, THANK YOU. ❤️

28 cats. 28 surgeries. And 28 opportunities to prevent future unwanted litters in Ashe County. 🐾❤️

📦 SPECIAL DELIVERY: ONE SOCKS IN A BOX. 🐾😂

No assembly required. Some unpacking may be necessary.

Socks is currently accepting applications for a permanent address, preferably one with plenty of love, comfy places to nap, and, apparently, a steady supply of cardboard boxes. ❤️

This sweet boy is ready to trade foster life for a home of his very own.

Could Socks be the one you’ve been waiting for?

📸 Pictured: Socks, demonstrating that sometimes the best things really do come in boxes. 😂❤️

🐾 LET’S TALK FOSTERING | HOW DO I GET STARTED?

You’ve thought about fostering. You’ve seen our urgent posts. Maybe you’ve even thought, “I could help.”

So…what happens next? ❤️

It starts with an application!

📝 Tell us a little about you, your household, your pets, and the type of fostering you may be comfortable with.

🐾 From there, our team will review your application and guide you through our approval process. It’s also a chance for us to get to know you, answer your questions, and talk about what types of foster animals might be a good fit for your home.

❤️ Once approved, you’re part of our foster team, and we’ll work with you to find a foster who may be a good fit for your household.

Having approved foster homes ready is what allows us to say YES when an animal needs somewhere safe to go. And sometimes, that need comes very quickly.

So if you’ve been thinking about fostering and you’re ready to open your home, we’d love to hear from you. 🐾❤️

Get approved before the emergency.

🚨 ASHE COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL NEEDS OUR HELP — PLEASE HELP US GET THESE ANIMALS SEEN. 🚨

A senior girl who was surrendered by her owner. A sweet, friendly girl who came in as a stray. Both waiting for someone to choose them. 💔

Puppies have been rescued!

Different stories. Different ages. But right now, they all have one thing in common:

They need out of Ashe County Animal Control and into homes.

Please don’t wait until we’re sharing a “last day” to notice them. If you’ve been thinking about adding a new member to your family, go meet them. If you can’t adopt, please SHARE. Tag a friend. Send this post to someone who might be looking.

We have a big community and a big reach. Let’s use it for them. ❤️🐾

📞 For current availability and all information, contact Ashe County Animal Control directly at 336-846-5966.

⚠️ PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT ASHE HUMANE SOCIETY ABOUT THESE ANIMALS. These animals are at Ashe County Animal Control, not in the care of Ashe Humane Society. Our foster homes are full, but we are using our platform to help give these animals the visibility they desperately need. We cannot provide current information or answer inquiries about animals housed at Animal Control — please contact Animal Control directly.

UPDATE: SHE WAS ADOPTED 🥳

💔 PLEASE HELP US GET THIS SENIOR GIRL SEEN.

This senior dog is currently at Ashe County Animal Control after being surrendered by her owner, and because she is an owner surrender, her time is limited.

She needs an adopter or rescue opportunity ASAP.

Please share her. Tag rescues. Send her to someone who may be able to help. Sometimes getting the right person to see one post is all it takes. ❤️

⚠️ PLEASE NOTE: This dog is NOT in the care of Ashe Humane Society. We do not have additional information about animals currently housed at Animal Control and cannot answer questions about her availability, temperament, medical history, or adoption process.

Please contact Ashe County Animal Control directly with all questions or if you can help.

🐾 Please, please share. This senior girl deserves a chance.

🐾 WHAT PARTNERSHIP CAN DO 🐾

Sometimes saving more animals simply comes down to people and organizations working together, and this week showed just how much can happen when everyone plays a part. ❤️

Earlier this week, staff at Ashe County Animal Control reached out to us about several friendly, sweet cats in their care who needed a rescue opportunity. We’re grateful to their staff for advocating for these cats and working with us to help give them that opportunity.

On Tuesday, Ashe Humane Society volunteer, Karen, pulled 8 cats from Animal Control. 3 of the younger cats went into AHS foster care, while Karen kept the other 5 safe, comfortable, and those tummies full overnight.

By Wednesday, those 5, along with several cats already in AHS foster homes, were on their way to our wonderful rescue partner SAFE Haven for Cats. ❤️

Partnerships like this are incredibly important to a small, foster-based rescue. Organizations like SAFE Haven have larger adoption networks and additional resources that can help our animals find homes quickly. And when cats from our foster homes are able to take that next step toward adoption, it opens space for us to help another animal who needs us.

We’re so grateful to SAFE Haven, Karen, our foster families, Animal Control staff, and everyone who helped make this happen.

Working together means more animals get a chance, and that’s what matters most. ❤️🐾

❤️ And there are still plenty of cats in our care waiting for their own next chapter.
