We regretfully share the passing of JTFD retiree Jeffrey Hockenbery. Jeff was a graduate of West Jefferson High School.

He loved this community dearly and followed in his family’s tradition (many of them volunteered/ worked for JTFD or served as firebelles over the years) where he committed 30 years of service and worked all positions between line firefighter and chief of the department.

He was a charter member of our local and an avid supporter of the department even after his retirement.

Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.

Jefferson Township Fallen Firefighters' Memorial Scholarship

The Jefferson Township Fire Department has experienced a great deal of loss over the years. The men pictured are: Captain Jeffrey Routte (2014), Bradley Haynes (2019), Shane Brintlinger (2019), Tommy Rees (2021), and Logan Jester (2025).

The loss of these great men did not only impact our organization, they were felt throughout our community.

To honor these men and their families, the Jefferson Township Firefighters are proud to offer a scholarship in their memory.

The scholarship(s) will be awarded to a high school senior who resides in Jefferson Township and is interested in pursuing a career in firefighting and/or Emergency Medical Services (EMT/Paramedic). Interested applicants are encouraged to reach out to [email protected] for more information.
