Ashe County Rescue Squad ACRS is a NC certified Heavy Rescue Provider. We are trained and Equipped for multiple types of Rescues.

Attention Ashe County-

The holidays are quickly approaching, and we know that these times can be tough for families. With that being said, we are pleased to announce that we are working on something to hopefully help make this holiday season a little easier for those in need. This year, we are working to bring to life the first annual Ashe County Rescue Squad Toy Drive! 🎁 While we are so excited to give back to the community in this capacity, we are also asking for the community’s help to make this possible. If you feel led to help, we will be accepting donations of toys for all age groups, as well as cash donations. In the coming weeks, we will be determining and announcing further details, so be sure to stay tuned for those announcements! Below, we have also provided a flyer discussing how the community can get involved, and ways to contact us for more information on the drive.

We are both excited and thankful for this opportunity, and we are grateful for all of the support to help make this happen! Please help us spread the word, and let’s work to have as big of an impact as we can.

Last weekend, members participated in a Level 1 Rope Rescue training, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and was held partially at the Ashe County Training Center and partially on Mount Jefferson State Park. This class taught students the importance of using ropes both safely and effectively, in order to ensure the safety of the rescuers and the patients during high angle extrications. Students also learned how to build rope systems to help raise and lower rescuers and patients into and out of various different situations and terrain types. This type of training brings in students from various departments, backgrounds, experience levels, and skill sets, and allows them work together using the resources they have. In the event of a situation that warrants this type of work, these individuals are able to use these skills and resources to carry out safe, smooth extrications. We would like to extend our appreciation and thanks to Joel Faircloth, William Mauney, Chris Mauney, Shawn Haynes, David Walker, Eric Wiseman, Tim Pennel, Jonathan Sowers, Jeff Hinshaw, and our very own, Captain Robert Poe, for helping bring this class together and make it happen under great instruction.

Last night, members participated in a vehicle stabilization training exercise. Members worked together using Paratech airbags, Paratech Struts, and cribbing techniques to go through a scenario that demonstrated how these tools would allow response teams to work quickly and efficiently to stabilize an accident scene and assist with extrication. We were fortunate to be able to purchase a set of Paratech airbags on a state grant that we received. We would also like to thank Jason Tilley with Paratech for taking the time to come speak with us and demonstrate the use of these tools.

We are so proud of Ashe County. Everyone was on their best behavior and wanted to shine for Our First Lady. We worked along side of Ashe County Emergency Management, Ashe County Sheriffs Dept and US Secret Service in our Command Trailer and used our Drone to fly over watch and help Secret Service make sure everything went according to plan.

Members of the Ashe County Rescue Squad were fortunate to have the opportunity to attend the 9/11 Ceremony at the Ashe County Courthouse earlier today. We are so grateful to have been able to be a part of honoring and remembering the lives lost 25 years ago.

We will never forget the brave souls, the sacrifices they made, and the courage they had in the face of fear. We will never forget the unity within our nation that allowed those affected by this event to begin recovering.

We would like to extend our gratitude and thanks to those who worked hard to organize this event and bring us all together to honor and remember the event that had such an impact on our community and the work we do today.

And a big thank you to one of our own members for capturing the picture of our unit in the emergency vehicle procession!
