With over 5 million cases diagnosed in the United States each year, skin cancer is America’s most common cancer. Fortunately, skin cancer is also one of the most preventable cancers. By sharing facts about the dangers of unprotected sun exposure and encouraging people to check their skin for warning signs, we can and will save lives. We are currently funding melanoma research projects at NYU Langone, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Rockefeller University. Please continue to support NCC at https://nationalcancercenter.org

👋 Meet Kaiwen Sun, Ph.D., one of NCC’s powerful postdocs!

⚕️Dr. Sun’s NCC-funded study focuses on a common mutation that drives the development of mucosal melanoma, an aggressive and poorly understood subtype of skin cancer. Dr. Sun’s research will allow us to better understand the mechanisms of the disease and identify new therapeutic targets.

➡️ When many other sources of research funding are disappearing, NCC’s unique approach ensures flexibility for postdocs like Dr. Sun to conduct innovative studies with great potential to improve patient outcomes. Please donate to NCC so talented postdocs like Dr. Sun can develop better treatments and move us closer to a cure: nationalcancercenter.org/donate/

👋Meet Jiali Yu, Ph.D., one of NCC’s powerful postdocs!

⚕️Dr. Yu's NCC-funded study focuses on a specific protein that helps control DNA organization within cells, and how failures in that organization process can contribute to diseases like leukemia. The goal of Dr. Yu’s study is to better understand how certain cancers develop at a molecular level. In the long term, this knowledge could help identify new targets for treatment or improve how we predict disease progression. Even small insights can help guide future therapies.

➡️When many other sources of research funding are disappearing, NCC’s unique approach ensures flexibility for postdocs like Dr. Yu to explore emergent ideas with great potential. Please donate to NCC so talented postdocs like Dr. Yu can continue to develop better treatments and move us closer to a cure. https://nationalcancercenter.org/donate/

NCC is proud to support funding of pancreatic cancer research at Columbia University in the amount of $122,000. Please continue to donate to NCC at https://nationalcancercenter.org/grants/
The need for effective pancreatic cancer treatment is acute as it is the deadliest in terms of survivability. It’s the third-leading cause of U.S. cancer deaths, with five-year survival of just 13 percent of patients. Treatments have changed little for three decades. https://apple.news/AyyuSIUCXTJiHi1eFXHi0cw

Pancreatic cancer has stymied treatment advances for decades. Data from new clinical trials shows promise.

👋Meet Hengrui Liu, Ph.D., one of NCC’s powerful postdocs!

⚕️Dr. Liu’s NCC-funded study, in the amount of $122,000, focuses on how some cancer cells develop therapeutic resistance, leading to poor outcomes for many patients. By improving our understanding of the process by which cells develop this resistance, Dr. Liu’s work will help identify new therapies with the potential to benefit the millions of people treated for cancer each year.

➡️ When many other sources of research funding are disappearing, NCC’s flexible and unique approach ensures support for urgent research projects such as Dr. Liu’s. Please donate to NCC so talented postdocs like Dr. Liu can continue to develop better treatments and move us closer to a cure. https://nationalcancercenter.org/donate/

National Cancer Center has just completed funding two research projects on colorectal cancer and progression at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and University of Nebraska Medical School. We are proud to support Sydney Moyer, PhD, with $102,000 towards her research AND Audifas Salvador Matus-Meza, PhD, $102,000, project title, Development of an NTSR1-targeted Radiotherapeutic for Colorectal Cancer and Other NTSR1-positive Cancers.

Nearly half of colorectal cancers now occur in younger patients as stated in today's NY Times article shown here - There is much work to be done! Please continue to support NCC at https://nationalcancercenter.org/

It isn’t clear what’s driving the shift, but scientists suspect that environmental exposures may be partially to blame.
