March 21 update:
Troop 179 Families
I know everyone is trying to adapt to the current isolating conditions the best ways that they can. Unfortunately this is a situation that is effecting everyone in the state and across the country and the rules keep changing everyday! Please know that the troop has not abandoned you! We are here for you to assist in any way we can! All families need time to adjust and fully comprehend what is happening and how it impacts the family now and for the foreseeable future. If you find you are having difficulty getting the basic household needs or need assistance in any way please let the troop know and we will do our best to help you out.
With that being said we are also going to try to continue the scouting program making use of online resources and social media. In the next few days I will be posting a series of emails that outlines specific rank requirements that can be completed at home and submitted for review and approval by the scoutmasters and rank advisers. Also - there are several merit badges that can be done exclusively utilizing email communication and video conferencing. If a scout has interest in completing a merit badge under the current circumstances please let me and Mr Charbonneau know so it can be authorized and we will let you know who the merit badge counselor is that needs to be contacted.
As directed by the National office of the BSA we will not be able to conduct any group activities that involve more than 10 participants through the end of March and probably into April. With those limitations we can not organize any troop activities but that does not mean patrol activities or small group gatherings can not be conducted. If we can organize small group hikes and outdoor activities we will let you know how and when that will take place.
Please continue to monitor your emails for updates on troop related information. Hopefully things will get back to normal soon but for know please be safe and abide by the restrictions imposed by the Governor. In the meantime take advantage of the opportunity to get outside and enjoy the good weather and do some family bonding activities! I was out running yesterday and I could not believe the amount of people out riding bikes, walking and actually playing basketball on those street side basketball nets - amazing!
