Who Was Garrett Morgan?
A prolific inventor who called himself the “Black Edison,” Garrett Morgan created early versions of the traffic light and gas mask. He began his career as a sewing-machine mechanic before patenting an improved sewing machine design and a hair-straightening product, among other inventions. His breathing device, known as a safety hood, later provided the blueprint for World War I gas masks. In 1923, Morgan invented a safer traffic light. The notable Black inventor, who lived much of his life in Ohio, died in July 1963 at age 86.

Who Was Sarah Boone?
Sarah Boone was an African American dressmaker who made her name by inventing the modern-day ironing board. In her patent application, she wrote that the purpose of her invention was “to produce a cheap, simple, convenient and highly effective device, particularly adapted to be used in ironing the sleeves and bodies of ladies’ garments.” With its approval in 1892, Boone became one of the first African American women to be awarded a patent.

Who Was Frederick McKinley Jones?
Inventor Frederick McKinley Jones pioneered portable refrigeration, which earned him the nickname “King of Cool.” After a challenging childhood, Jones taught himself mechanical and electrical engineering and became one of the most notable Black inventors of the 20th century. He received more than 60 patents during his lifetime for inventing various refrigeration, sound, and automobile devices. The portable refrigeration units he developed helped the United States military transport food, medicine, and blood during World War II. With a business partner, Jones founded a company today known as Thermo King. He died in February 1961 at age 67.

🛡️ Gear Check! The Heritage Bowl Just Got an Upgrade.
We are proud to announce our partnership with SYZMIC SPORTS! They’re bringing premium protection and serious style to this year’s athletes. Here is what the players will be rocking:
🏈 For the Girls Flag Athletes (Flag Component):
Every Player will be suiting up in Custom X7c Protective Headbands. These aren’t just for looks; they provide essential protection while keeping the game fast and competitive.
🏈 For the Boys Teams (Practice Week):
To elevate the lead-up to the big game, X7’s Soft-Shell Helmets. These are the top-rated soft shells on the market. The boys will wear these during practice week to ensure they can go hard and get quality reps with added head safety before they put on the pads.
