Emma’s Story Through Our Eyes. She can’t talk but we can.
"I volunteered at an event to help shelter dogs called 4 days, 9 dogs. I met a few of the dogs at the event who were up for adoption but one stuck out. Her name is Emma. Every time I went from the kitchen to the event space with a tray full of food or glasses, I would pass by her. I am partial to black labs, though she is mixed with a bit of Sharpei in her as well. This combination is not only gorgeous but also makes for quite an intelligent mix. She would stare at me when I walked by, so I would stop each time to pet her."
"She was so warm and affectionate, and I received a lot of kisses from her that night. I wanted to adopt her, but I already have two rescues at home, and our building has a 2-dog limit. What broke my heart even more was the fact that she is 6 years old and was abandoned by her previous family. I really can't understand why anyone would do such a thing to such a beautiful loving animal. I could tell right away by her gentle demeanor that she would make a great pet and loyal friend. My heart still goes out to Emma, although it has been several months since the event. I think about her every day and hope and pray that the shelter will keep her alive long enough for us to find her the home she deserves

"I met Emma in March 2012 when I was helping my collaborator in an art event, 4 Days, 9 Dogs photograph Emma. She was a calm soul - kind, loving and intelligent. I was then responsible for turning her photograph into ‘art’ – and I spent hours and hours looking at her. It was an intimate process."
"Our event passed; and we raised money which we donated to the City’s animal shelter. 8 of the 9 dogs found homes days – or weeks later. None were euthanized."
"One dog remains. Emma. It’s been several months since our event, and she’s still in the shelter; calm and loving as always. It could be because she is black, female, and old; characteristically this combination works against her-- statistically speaking. However, she is still alive and waiting for her home. I feel it is my responsibility to speak on her."
