We weren't just peeling onions for soup.
There's a lesson from onions 👇

"Life is like an onion"
There's the outer layer, but you can keep peeling for more depth to get to the core.

Everything we experience, every story we read in the Torah, has a deeper meaning waiting for us beneath the surface. We just have to keep digging.

A very special shabbat with very special people 🥰

People of the book... and a little coffee...☕

Reuven loved to read books. He loved to learn, and he loved reading to his grandkids. He would sometimes read to them for so long that his family wondered where he was, and then found him still reading stories. His children would eventually have to stop the bedtime stories for the night because it was so late.

At Reuven's Cafe and Book Lounge, we chose Jewish books to keep and to learn in Reuven's memory, and we decorated bookmarks and journals to help us along the way. 📖

We did a Mitzvah pledge, we got Shabbat candles to give out, and we got the coziest sweaters and merch!

Reuven's daughter told us that the book “What Would You Do If You Weren’t Afraid” honestly could not be more fitting.

“That is what my father lived by every day."

May the learning bring peace and comfort to Reuven Ben Emmanuel and his family. ❤️

💔 As we try (and fail) to come to terms with the horrific attack on our Family at Bondi Beach on the first night of Chanukah, we are reminded of the Rebbe's words to the Israeli community after a similar massacre in the 50s: "You will find comfort with continued growth" (paraphrasing).

😪 Our dear fallen fellow Jews are no longer able to carry on their own life's missions, and so we will do our small part in carrying their legacy forward.

🫶 This semester, we are launching 15 new initiatives, one for each of the people we lost, closely aligned with the values they lived by during their journey on earth. When possible, we consulted the families. Otherwise, we used the families' statement about their lives and missions to guide us in planning these commemorations.

May we only have joyous reasons to gather and celebrate.

Insta says these are the top nine. ✨️

And these were certainly highlights of the year! 🙌

But I also want to share some "tops" that don't show up on the grid:

The messages like:

"I'm finished my exam early, how can I help for tonight's event?"

"I just met a Jewish girl at Starbucks, I told her all about Chabad. Shes gonna come to the Challah bake."

"I shared what we learned in JewishU with my family at the table."

There is so much "behind the scenes" awesomeness that doesn't make it to the Gram, so here's some more "top" Nachas from our amazing community. 💪
