So proud of Lhakpa Sherpa! She will be hiking the Reservoir with us in June! Jewish Family Services of Greater Hartford
Congratulations
On the morning of May 17, 2026, at approximately 9:30 AM Nepal time, Lhakpa Sherpa stood on the summit of Mt. Everest (Sagarmatha / Chomolungma) for the 11th time — extending her own world record as the woman with the most Everest summits in history.
Born in a small village in Nepal's Makalu region, denied schooling as a girl, she cut her hair and disguised herself as a boy just to get close to the mountains she loved. She started as a porter. She became a legend.
In 2000, she became the first Nepali woman to summit Everest and return alive. In 2003, she reached the top alongside her sister and brother — the first sibling trio on the summit, a Guinness World Record. She survived an abusive marriage, raised her daughters as a single mother in Hartford, Connecticut, and worked long hours to finance every expedition back to these mountains.
Eleven summits. Zero shortcuts.
The Mountain Queen 👑 continues to inspire every woman, every climber, and every person who has ever been told the mountain is not for them.
Wishing Lhakpa Sherpa a safe and steady descent back to Base Camp.
