Why Teens Take Risks:
Understanding Adolescent Risk-taking Through a Developmental Lens

Register here: bit.ly/4qbyYW9

Adolescence is a time of exploration, growth, and increased risk-taking. This online presentation will help parents understand why teens are more inclined toward behaviors such as impulsive driving, substance use, gambling, risky sexual behavior, and problematic internet and media use—and how these behaviors can sometimes signal broader challenges.

The session emphasizes what is developmentally typical, what may warrant concern, and how families and communities can respond supportively. Presented by Yifrah Kaminer, MD, MBA, Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry & Pediatrics, UConn School of Medicine.

NOT JUST US will be hosting a Greater Hartford Community Unity Event on May 13, 2025 at 6 PM at Immanuel Congregational Church. The goal of the event is to bring community together, learn about available resources, and build relationships with each other. NJU is a statewide collaborative where we support others’ work.

We also are a volunteer group which advocates and brings together communities of color, LGBQTIA+, diverse faiths, disabilities, foster and adoptive, indigenous, and lower socioeconomic incomes. We believe all people should be at the table of decision making and actively participating, listened to, and be a factor in all decisions made. Please contact Brian Donahue at 860-305-4238 for more information. 360
