We strive to convene the community around issues facing women and girls in our region to promote collaboration and effective solutions.

The Aurora Women and Girls Foundation galvanizes resources to increase economic security, educational attainment, and leadership for women and girls in the Greater Hartford region. We provide opportunities to educate and engage women and men in the power of philanthropy to achieve social change for women and girls. We also implement strategic grantmaking that supports and empowers women and girls of all ages in Greater Hartford.

Aurora's 14th Research Report is LIVE! Advancing Women's Leadership: Evidence and Insights

Women in leadership and senior management improve business and corporate cultures, governance, and, ultimately, the bottom line. This report documents the national and statewide data showing women’s progress in holding leadership positions and the continuing disparities in representation at leadership levels and significant pay gaps for those who do reach senior management positions.

The benefits for business are clear, but the pathways for women to secure leadership positions can be difficult. Interviews with senior executive women in Connecticut provide insights and strategies for women as they navigate complex organizational environments with the goal of building a robust pipeline of women moving into management and leadership positions.

Our Young Women’s Initiative (YWI) participants recently visited the University of Hartford, hosted by the Women’s Advancement Initiative’s LEAD program for an inspiring day of learning, mentorship, and college exploration.

The students received a campus tour from the LEAD scholars, participated in interactive activities, and heard from a student panel about their college experiences—all while enjoying their first meal in a college dining hall.

We couldn’t be more proud of both the LEAD and YWI students. Through mentorship, collaboration, and shared experiences, they are building bright futures for themselves and their communities. A special thank you to Ares for supporting opportunities like these that empower young women to envision their futures, expand their horizons, and pursue their goals with confidence. Thanks, also, to our partners at the YWCA New Britain House of Teens.
