Spotlight on Hartford Men in Harmony’s Dale Gustafson:
Dale Gustafson is one of our very active members of Hartford Men in Harmony. He is a retired Lutheran clergyman who has served congregations in Burlington, VT, Hartford, and Manchester, CT, for 21 years. Born in Modesto, CA, Dale spent most of his formative years in St. Peter, Minnesota. Dale says he has taken the “go west young man” idea and reversed it to “go east young man, go east.”
Dale became interested in the barbershop genre in high school after hearing the Buffalo Bills singing in Music Man. He could not formally get involved with Barbershop until about 7 years ago when he joined HMIH at the age of 77! Dale currently works as a volunteer with 3 not-for-profit organizations, one local, one regional in CT, and one global (Africa and U.S.) Dale says, “Life is good when one is busy, especially when others can be served.”
Dale raised his adored family in CT, and later, when his beloved wife unexpectedly became ill with stage 4 cancer, he spent six years as her caregiver until her passing. You can currently find Dale pounding the pavement, heading up publicity for his Barbershop group, making connections, passing out flyers and posters, and calling organizations that would love to come see the shows. See Dale and the barbershop show “I’m Beginning to See the Light.” Hartford Men in Harmony perform and host this dazzling show featuring all their barbershop guest stars this November 18, 2023, at Sedgwick Middle School’s vintage stage in West Hartford at 7:30 pm.
