Well, Folks....the end of an app. 25-year tradition....and my participation in it. For a quarter of a decade, the Town had desired to have ROB THE DRUMMER displayed on a "Float" in the Park Road Parade, a community outpouring of warmth and support for all the reasons a Parade is so much fund...standing up and making a statement about Freedom by its very definition...and Joy! My particular "float" had the message on huge placards "The ARTS.....a NATURAL Way to change the way you Feel!"....one of the main tenets of the RTD credo. I would play on this float on a full size set...and really Kick it Out with the crowd as we went by...sometimes accompanied by Dancers from Hall High or other schools, and sometimes with other Drummers on the float with me. It was very "New Orleans" actually....great laughter and spirits involved...but this last year, we were not able to get the technical logistics assembled for the "Float" set up...just wasn't available, which I'm told is part of the reason why the Parade is ending all together...many of the "acts" were just not able to get the backup. I truly thank all the crowds and Town officials that made us all feel Very Special for these years of unifying Community sharing...and that we were in enough of a secure protected environment where we could all share like this....with Kids running free, with no worry of any danger or interference....as the tradition, and this Parade literally began in the Age of Innocence. Some things may have changed....but it was Glorious while it lasted.....
Tomorrow, then, Saturday, I'm playing a rather private Meet and Greet for the Hall High Class of '69' 55th Reunion! This was the year after I graduated, so I knew many of these folks well....and I'm playing with a Band that began Then...with some of my closest Friends of all time, THE ITALICS! The Grillo Brother, Bob and Paul, and "Pronto" Bob Pronovost. What a gas! We could have never Imagined that we would be doing this...now....from back then! You know what I mean!!
In the evening, 7 start at The Maple Tree in Simsbury, a truly All-Star Band....renowned all. Dan McNamara on Keys, Sax, demeanor...Randy Ball, explosive Guitar munching, always with a Twist, Ed "Crazy Legs" Corvo on lead mouth, Bass frequencies, and kazoo....and myself holding up my rear...sorry THE rear...or middle, actually! Should really be great....Please come check it out if you're free and easy....
