Mixed emotions of a spiritual kind tonight....like "Close Encounters of a Third Kind".....but just as deep. On Yom Kippur Eve...with Kol Nidre, the service for the dead beginning late tonight..where we remember those that have passed with the deepest reverence, we add another to the Grand List.....Burt Teague, who passed this morning about 5:30 A.M. we are told. A World-Class Guitar Player, close personal Brother, and one of the funniest Human beings I've encountered. Beloved by SO many for his sharing his Spirit in every way possible. Gone much too early...and his Laugh will resonate in the chambers of my Heart, bouncing off the walls...forever. His quality of life had faded..so it may be construed as a mixed blessing....but he will be SO missed...by all that were Enchanted by his boyish demeanor...and blazing talent to inspire, musically and otherwise. Amen.
So...even though it's the Holiest Jewish Holiday of the year, I have tracked down God's area code...and was able to get through...and got Special Permission to play tomorrow at The Apple Harvest Festival in Southington....at 3:00 P.M. with Nightshift....and at 7:00 with Country Western legend Jordan Oaks. Both, I believe are on the Main stage...and since it looks like it's going to be beautiful Weather-wise, it could be one of those set of concerts-and-community you may remember for a while...so "Come On Down" as they say....and check 'er out! It may be "group therapy", because they say that last weekend, they had over 100,000 people...and all the fritters you could squash down!!
ROB THE DRUMMER

10/04/2024

Well, Folks....the end of an app. 25-year tradition....and my participation in it. For a quarter of a decade, the Town had desired to have ROB THE DRUMMER displayed on a "Float" in the Park Road Parade, a community outpouring of warmth and support for all the reasons a Parade is so much fund...standing up and making a statement about Freedom by its very definition...and Joy! My particular "float" had the message on huge placards "The ARTS.....a NATURAL Way to change the way you Feel!"....one of the main tenets of the RTD credo. I would play on this float on a full size set...and really Kick it Out with the crowd as we went by...sometimes accompanied by Dancers from Hall High or other schools, and sometimes with other Drummers on the float with me. It was very "New Orleans" actually....great laughter and spirits involved...but this last year, we were not able to get the technical logistics assembled for the "Float" set up...just wasn't available, which I'm told is part of the reason why the Parade is ending all together...many of the "acts" were just not able to get the backup. I truly thank all the crowds and Town officials that made us all feel Very Special for these years of unifying Community sharing...and that we were in enough of a secure protected environment where we could all share like this....with Kids running free, with no worry of any danger or interference....as the tradition, and this Parade literally began in the Age of Innocence. Some things may have changed....but it was Glorious while it lasted.....

Tomorrow, then, Saturday, I'm playing a rather private Meet and Greet for the Hall High Class of '69' 55th Reunion! This was the year after I graduated, so I knew many of these folks well....and I'm playing with a Band that began Then...with some of my closest Friends of all time, THE ITALICS! The Grillo Brother, Bob and Paul, and "Pronto" Bob Pronovost. What a gas! We could have never Imagined that we would be doing this...now....from back then! You know what I mean!!
In the evening, 7 start at The Maple Tree in Simsbury, a truly All-Star Band....renowned all. Dan McNamara on Keys, Sax, demeanor...Randy Ball, explosive Guitar munching, always with a Twist, Ed "Crazy Legs" Corvo on lead mouth, Bass frequencies, and kazoo....and myself holding up my rear...sorry THE rear...or middle, actually! Should really be great....Please come check it out if you're free and easy....

Ladies and Germs,
Fun time with the 3-D Academy in Waterbury last night with the Davis Brothers, Will and Chris, Harold Zinno, and some Special guests...including Mayor Paul Pernerewski. This is Organization is trying to make the very best out of difficult economic and familial circumstances, and is a pleasure to be a part of. I had the chance to do some rhythm exchanges with all the kids in attendance. I hadn't actually seen and heard Chris in many years, who's composing and producing is frequently on the Smooth Jazz charts internationally. We had played together with Flutist Sherry Winston years ago. Great to see him.
Friday, this week, Nightshift at Connecticut Valley Brewing, Sullivan Ave., South Windsor...always a great venue....6-9....nice and early.
Tomorrow night, I'll be with The Signature Band at Sicily Coal Pizza, Main St., Middletown....8-11 Those wonderful pieces of coal that they serve as a garnish with the cheese are a little hard on the teeth....but give you that warm, fluffy feeling!......Kidding...Kidding!
Come on out!...as it may be a nice break in your routine!

Saturday night....a return with Avenue Groove...at Scotch Plains Tavern, in Westbrook...8 start. Always fun to play with Pete Defazio , Laura Noonan, and the Group...that I was with 6 years previously! Nice Folks...and the Dancers will come out! RTD

Well, Folks....had a great gig with Nightshift yesterday....for the Town of Bloomfield...hundreds of Folks, great weather...I love the Fall like this...All went really well.
I then I responded to a rather emergency call from Jordan Oaks, a wonderful Country-Western singer and player with a great band....who's Drummer was extremely sick...and couldn't make the evening date...out in this huge expanse in West Suffield. I had never had the opportunity to play with him previously, even though we had spoken a few times about doing something together.
What a Pro...of fine character, and all his people surrounding him are warm and an incredible support group...and Fans! Originally from Rocky Hill, he's now all over the Planet. This is generally not a genre' I've spent a lot of time playing, but last minute, and "off the cuff", it all went very well...as they were clear communicators...as we put it together "on the fly"! Thank God for personal radar!...as it was an exercise in musical intuition!....that worked well!!
He's playing at the Berlin Fair today, and I would suggest if you have the time, to catch his set. It's worth the effort...especially if you are a CW Fan! RTD

Folks,

It's always fun to play a grand outside venue, and tomorrow night I will play with Nightshift for the New Britain Concert Series at the Walnut Hill Park BandShell....a lovely mini-Hollywood Bowl-like
Concert and Dance experience. 7-9...and should be Epic! Great Sound..Great Lights...pretty ideal from a Musician's point of view!

Friday with Nightshift is the Westbrook Town Concert Series...on the Green..5:30-7:30. Always great to be down at the Beach...especially in the Town that has Island View beach...where my Brother and Sister-in-Law now reside...and where we have stayed with my entire family for decades before that renting a cottage. What memories!

Saturday....an All-Star Band at the original Cliffside Country Club...which is now the Talcott Mountain Collective, in Avon/Simsbury...7 start, I believe....Dan McNamara, Dennis Fancher, Ed Corvo, and myself. I can hear the laughter even before I get there! Great players...great guys...that don't have an opportunity often to play together as a unit. Bring your Kids, your Dogs, llamas, rubber chickens...whatever...and Enjoy!
Sunday, I have a great Church service in the north end of Hartford in the A.M....and then Nightshift out at Olivers in Windham...check the Nightshift site for details.
That's this weekend's wrap-up! RTD
