We’ve maintained restraint throughout this challenging period, but contemplating potential conflict with our NATO allies is where we draw the line. How much latitude will we permit before we collectively assert that it has gone far enough?

The Sun Oil Company’s Read-Boyd Farm site, a 72-acre property located in Upper Chichester, Pennsylvania, was utilized as a chemical dumping ground, with the company allowing unknown chemicals to be disposed of in large ponds over the course of five decades without maintaining any records of the substances involved. In approximately 1980, Joseph Lee Ho**er and his environmental organization, We Are The People Inc.., collaborated with the Delaware County Daily Times and other local news outlets to expose the toxic waste site. The Marcus Hook Creek, which flowed through the property, became polluted, and local residents' wells, still in use at the time, were also contaminated. Following media coverage, the company erected a fence around the property but did not undertake any further cleanup efforts. In 1986, Ho**er documented the site's condition through aerial photography, revealing the state of the chemical ponds. Nearly four decades later, another environmental group discovered alarming evidence suggesting that the ponds were being filled with landfill materials. Despite an environmental study estimating the cleanup cost at $40 million in 1972, Sun Company declined to take responsibility. The United States Environmental Protection Agency has classified the site as a Superfund site, with archived status, indicating no ongoing work. Notably, plans have been reported for Sunoco Logistics to utilize the property for pipeline transfer. Given the circumstances, would you agree that environmental agencies and Sun Oil Company have some explaining to do?

In 1986 Joseph Lee Ho**er captured these aerial photos of Sun Oil Company’s abandoned Toxic Chemical dump site located in Upper Chichester,Pa USA

Look at the aerial photos taken in spring 1986 by J.L. Ho**er and photos from 2019 by Del-Chesco United to see that the pits are being filled in disregarding public health and well-being.

This is a Sunoco-contaminated site sometimes referred to as "Read Boyd Farm." The site is at the southeast corner of the intersection of I-95 and Market Street (SR 452) in Upper Chichester Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. According to a source inside Delaware County government, this is a site that "Marcus Hook Industrial Complex [Sunoco's former refinery, now being converted to an export terminal] has been remediating for acid dumping back in the day."

During the week of October 25, 2019 strong petroleum-like odors were reported across Delaware County, including in the immediate vicinity of the Read Boyd Farm site. It's unconfirmed whether some or all of these fumes originated from there--Delaware County has not ruled it in or out, as far as Del-Chesco United knows--but the site has released toxic or noxious fumes in the past. From the August 2015 minutes of Upper Chichester Township:

"Mr. McMullan [the township manager] commented on Read Boyd Farm and noted the an environmental impact created by Sunoco Logistics. A accidental v***r cloud was created by a subcontractor of of Sunoco Logistics from incorrectly adding to much chemical to a pit at the location. The v***r impacted residents in Lower Chichester. The Township, along with members from Lower Chichester and Sunoco Logistics met to discuss the incident, as well as grading work to be completed at the site. Mr. McMullan will forward information about future work at the site to [township engineer] Mr. Viscuso."

Sunoco Logistics has a long history of threatening public health and safety with negligent practices like the one above, and it is imperative that they are held accountable.
