Dr. Harold B Rinker Memorial Scholarship Fund

Dr. Harold B Rinker Memorial Scholarship Fund We are a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization. This educational scholarship was created in honor of Dr. Harold B. Rinker, who passed away in 2012.

Our 6 person volunteer board provides tuition scholarships to successfully graduating participants of the Washington/Madison County Drug Treatment Program. He was a veterinarian by trade, but he was also a recovering alcoholic who celebrated his 38th year of sobriety before he died, and his passion was helping others upon whom society had given up. In his honor, Dr. Rinker’s family wanted to do so

mething to “give back” and what better way to do that than give a “hand-up” to someone and something he was passionate about.

🚫Stopping drug and alcohol use can improve an individual’s overall health. While not all substance-related cardiac changes are reversible, quitting drug and alcohol use can improve cardiac functioning and prevent conditions from worsening.
🍻When an individual stops drinking alcohol, cardiovascular function can significantly improve. In fact, even a significant decrease in alcohol consumption can elicit improvement.
🚭For individuals who smoke ci******es, quitting drastically reduces the risk of catastrophic cardiac events. For instance, 4 years after stopping to***co use, a person’s risk of stroke drops to the same level as those who have never smoked.
🛑Additionally, stopping methamphetamine use can improve heart function and symptoms for individuals who developed meth-induced cardiomyopathy.
❤Furthermore, heart infections caused by injection drug use can significantly improve following treatment and sustained abstinence.

“I knew I needed to be with people who understood me. I had not found any understanding about living with an alcoholic anywhere in society until I found Al-Anon. I learned that alcoholism is a disease, and not anybody’s fault.”

“I Needed People Who Understood,” “The Forum” July 2017

“I realized that I couldn’t want recovery for him more than he did. I began to accept that I was powerless over alcohol and that my life was unmanageable. So I decided to take responsibility for the part I played in the family disease of alcoholism by facing my own fears.”

“Letting Go of My Son,” “The Forum,” January 2018
