🇺🇸 Saddle Up and Ride Through History at Pea Ridge National Military Park 🐴

There’s something truly special about exploring the beauty and history of Pea Ridge from the back of a horse. Rolling trails, peaceful woodlands, wildlife, and the echoes of American history make this one of Arkansas’ most unique riding destinations.

Horseback riders are blessed to experience public lands in a way few others can — quietly traveling the same ground where history was made while enjoying the natural beauty of the Ozarks. Whether you are riding for relaxation, conditioning your horse, or making memories with family and friends, Pea Ridge offers a ride worth remembering.

As always, responsible trail stewardship matters:
🐴 Stay on designated equestrian trails
🐴 Yield respectfully and communicate with hikers and bikers
🐴 Pack out trash and help keep trails clean.

🐴 The horse parking lot does not have a compost pile, please bring a bucket
& pitchfork/shovel and kindly clean up after your horse the parking area around your trailers.

🐴 Be courteous ambassadors for the equestrian community
🐴 Remember — positive encounters help keep trails open for everyone

🐴🌲 WHAT HORSES SEE 🌲🐴

To a horse or mule, the trail can look very different than it does to us.
A fast-moving bicycle, loose dog, loud engine, or sudden movement may trigger a natural prey-animal response rooted in survival instinct.

That’s why trail etiquette and communication matter.

At the Back Country Horsemen of Northwest Arkansas, we believe:
🧡 Respect. Awareness. Communication.
🖤 Safety is Everyone’s Business.

Whether you hike, bike, ride, walk dogs, or use motorized vehicles on public lands, we can ALL work together to create safer shared trails for everyone.

✔️ STOP
✔️ SPEAK
✔️ WAIT

A calm voice and a moment of patience can prevent accidents and create positive experiences for both people and horses.

🐴 Equine Trail Etiquette Reminders:
• Announce yourself early and calmly
• Slow down around horses
• Keep dogs short-leashed and under control
• Give horses room to safely pass
• Stay on designated routes
• Wait for rider direction before passing

Together, we keep trails open for future generations.
Because Rides Matter. 🧡🖤💙

🐴💙 YOU DON’T NEED A HORSE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! 💙🐴

Many people assume that the Back Country Horsemen is only for horse owners. The truth is, some of our most valuable volunteers don’t own a horse at all!

Whether you’re a hiker, camper, photographer, parent, retiree, student, or simply someone who loves the outdoors, there is a place for you in the Back Country Horsemen family.

🌲 Ways Non-Horse Owners Can Help:
✅ Trail maintenance and cleanup
✅ Litter pickup and campsite stewardship
✅ Photography and social media content
✅ Event support and registration
✅ Membership and fundraising assistance
✅ Educational outreach and community events
✅ Trail mapping and GPS projects
✅ Sponsorship and donor support

👧👦 Kids Can Help Too!
✅ Pick up trash on trails and campgrounds
✅ Learn Leave No Trace principles
✅ Help with educational displays and projects
✅ Assist at events and information booths
✅ Learn trail etiquette and outdoor stewardship
✅ Become the next generation of trail advocates

Every volunteer hour matters. Every trail cleared, every piece of trash removed, every educational conversation, and every helping hand contributes to preserving access to our public lands.

At B*HNWA, we’re more than a riding club—we’re a volunteer organization dedicated to keeping trails open, protecting public lands, and educating the public about responsible outdoor recreation.

🐴 You don’t need a horse to make a difference.
💙 You just need a heart for the outdoors and a willingness to help.

Join us and become part of something bigger!

🚨 Trail Advisory – Hobbs State Park 🚨

Attention B*HNWA members, equestrians, and trail users:

The Hobbs War Eagle Trail Run will take place on Saturday, June 6, utilizing the park’s multi-use trail system. Organizers expect hundreds of runners on the trails throughout the day.

For the safety of all trail users, equestrians and mountain bikers are encouraged to make alternate plans and avoid riding at Hobbs on Saturday. The multi-use trails will be heavily occupied by race participants and will effectively be unavailable for horse and bicycle use during the event.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation as we share our public lands responsibly and help ensure a safe and successful event for all.

🐴 Please help spread the word to fellow riders.

🐎 The History Behind Back Country Horsemen

Founded in 1973 in Montana’s Flathead Valley, the Back Country Horsemen of America (B*HA) began as a small group of horsemen determined to keep America’s public lands open to pack and saddle stock use.

What started as a grassroots effort has grown into a nationwide 501(c)(3) nonprofit with chapters across 30+ states and Canada — contributing millions of volunteer hours maintaining trails, partnering with land agencies, and advocating for responsible stewardship.

Their mission is simple:
✔ Keep trails open
✔ Protect public lands
✔ Educate riders
✔ Preserve our backcountry heritage

Because access doesn’t stay open by accident — it stays open because people show up.

Here in Northwest Arkansas, we’re proud to continue that legacy.

🌲 Make Rides Matter.
