Thank You, Volunteers!
What an amazing day at the rescue — and it’s all thanks to the incredible volunteers who came out to lend a hand. The amount of work we were able to accomplish together was nothing short of inspiring.
Here’s just a glimpse of what got done:
Branches cut back at the drive-by gate
The chicken hook was found (no small miracle!)
A hay bale was cut open for the animals
Chicken coop cleaned, significant overgrowth cut back, steps repaired, and the flock tucked safely inside
Duck house foundation completed
Donkeys got their much-needed pedicures
Trails cleared and safe for walking again
At the Big Sky Tent Deck, a whole team effort transformed the space:
Two heavy Adirondack chairs were carried up to the Buddha (about 1/4 mile uphill)
A broken blue chair was carried down to the house (about 1/2 mile)
Over 40 feet of space cut back around the deck
The trail up to the deck cleared
Four 50-pound bags of concrete were carried 1/3 mile to the dam to reinforce it
And beyond all that? Volunteers even helped me get my plants back inside while I’m hobbling around on crutches, and of course pitched in with the meals.
Speaking of meals — we ate well! Last night’s chicken parm was followed this morning by fresh eggs, bacon, oatmeal, and muffins. Lunch was maple and fire-roasted tomato soup with toasted cheese sandwiches, and we’ll cap it all off with a cookout tonight.
I can’t say it enough: thank you to every person who showed up, worked hard, laughed, shared stories, and made today possible. This place runs on the power of community, and days like today remind me just how lucky we are.
