Meals on Wheels of the Sandhills We often hear directly from the person in need or from family members who live far away and are concerned for their loved ones.

Meals on Wheels of the Sandhills provides a hot, nutritious, diet-specific mid-day meal, Monday through Friday (including weekday holidays), to homebound recipients unable to cook for themselves and don't have others to cook for them. Meals on Wheels of the Sandhills provides a hot, nutritious, mid-day meal, Monday through Friday (including weekday holidays), to homebound Moore County, NC residents. A person is eligible to receive meals if they are partially or fully homebound and unable to have meals prepared, unable to prepare meals for themselves, and experiencing food insecurity. We also receive referrals from the Department of Aging & Social Services, FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Home Health Agencies, Doctors, Nurses, Churches and Other Responsible Parties. Please contact us if you or someone you know is partially or fully homebound and experiencing food insecurity. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization and a partnering agency of The United Way of Moore County as well as the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC. ⭐️MEET THE NEWEST MEMBER OF OUR MEALS ON WHEELS TEAM!
For those who have followed Meals on Wheels of the Sandhills for a few years, you know that we are a small organization with a BIG mission—and we are incredibly excited to share some wonderful news!
We now have an Administrative Assistant supporting our Executive Director and helping us build the infrastructure we need to continue growing. Please join us in welcoming Danielle to the Meals on Wheels team! 🎉
If you’ve had the pleasure of meeting Danielle, you already know what a warm, positive, and genuine presence she brings to our organization. As our part-time Administrative Assistant, Danielle will focus on supporting Volunteer needs, events, fundraising, community connections, and helping us develop a sustainable nonprofit funding model for the future.

But there’s a lot you may not know about Danielle!
Danielle brings a fascinating and diverse professional background to Meals on Wheels. She spent decades in retail management, overseeing teams and traveling internationally for purchasing. She also brings extensive nonprofit experience, including years working in domestic violence services, where she progressed from court advocate to Executive Director and served on nonprofit boards.
Her Meals on Wheels story actually began as a volunteer driver with MOWS. 🏎️🚗
Through volunteering, Danielle saw firsthand the importance of a nutritious meal and a friendly visit for our homebound older adults. What she loves most about Meals on Wheels is the people—the connections with our volunteers, our clients, and the community we serve.
And now that she’s behind the scenes, she’s discovering just how many moving parts it takes to get those meals and those connections out the door every single day! 🍽️
Outside of Meals on Wheels, Danielle loves animals, gardening, farmers markets, walking in nature, and spending time in the mountains. She and her husband, Doug, share their home with Luna, their rescue pup. 🐾🌿
And finally… we have to share one fun fact: Danielle went to school with Jeff Bezos! 😲
From butterflies to Bali to Bezos, Danielle certainly has some stories to tell!
We are so excited to have her on our team and look forward to all that she will bring to Meals on Wheels of the Sandhills as we continue working to ensure that no homebound senior in our community goes without a nutritious meal and a caring connection.

Supporter Spotlight: Pinehurst United Methodist Church

“The people of Pinehurst United Methodist Church (PUMC) are grateful for the opportunity to support Meals On Wheels in a variety of meaningful ways. The church is a longtime financial contributor to the organization, and has more recently expanded its involvement through dedicated service. One such venture began almost two years ago when PUMC started donating fruit cups and crackers to supplement food distribution to community members. These items are generously brought in by church members on a continuous basis and then transported to Meals On Wheels every two weeks by Barry and Sheila Oakes.”
PUMC also has a wonderful group of individuals who volunteer as delivery drivers. Last summer, the church adopted its own delivery route and has remained committed to ensuring that food finds its way to those in need. PUMC currently has 14 drivers who serve on a rotating basis.

The people of Pinehurst United Methodist Church are passionately devoted to expressing their faith through loving their neighbor and caring for the most vulnerable. In addition to Meals On Wheels, PUMC is proud to support 20 other local organizations who are also doing incredible work for the betterment of our community.
