Midweek Update - Week of
June 15th

We hope everyone got out over the weekend for hike or a ride the trails were in great shape all across the network and the bugs have become much less aggressive. As the season pick up steam as we have more things going on around the network we are going to be doing a midweek and a weekend update.

The few blow downs and hangers on the north side of Crosstown were removed today. The bigger blow downs/tangles on the south side are currently being assed but are stable at this time.

On Tuesday Evening from 6-7pm we are going to be having an after work trail corridor session on the new Cross Country Trail at the Stratton Rec Area. After we are done moving slash we will go for a quick lap. This trail is being built in part with partial funding from SRAM MTB and Athletic Brewing Co. We can not thank them enough for their suport.

We are currently working with Vail resorts to host up to 3 dual grass slalom races on Friday evenings at the block party. This will be a family friendly event and we hope to have one each month for July, August and September this season. We are trying to identify the most convenient start time for everyone. We are thinking sometime between 5:30 and 6:30. If you are interested in participating could you take a second to fill out the survey of what the most convent start time would be.

If you have not done so already please consider renewing or purchasing a VMBA or Community trail membership.

If you want to make a donation you can head over to our Donations page
If you can not justify a membership or donation reach out to volunteer some of your time as we always have little projects that need to be done.

Trail Update - Weekend of
April 18th

We are getting close to being able to open the network for the season. The trail treads still need a a little more time to dry out. Our volunteers where able to get a full clean up pass done at Stratton Rec this past weekend and the hope is that we will be able to start opening the different pods sometime next week... Weather dependent. We will most likely open Stratton Rec first, then Crosstown and The Stratton Town Forest will be the last open. It is looking like all of the trails will be open by no later that the 1st of May.

While you are waiting for the network to open you can come out and help us get the trails in great shape for the season. For our second trail work day of the season, this Saturday we will be working at Crosstown from 11am to 2pm. We are looking for people to help with leaf blowing, removing debris and help buff out some turns. We plan to leave the parking lot on Handle Road at 11am and work out way across the pod.

We are currently planning our group ride/hiking schedule for the season and are looking for some input on when would be the best time to host our youth/family rides. If you are interested can you please take few second to answer a quick survey so we can schedule a time that work best for everyone.

Looking forward to this season we have have some new membership options. We have the normal VMBA memberships with the huge amount of benefits they provide to partner business around the state. The individual and family memberships are great value if you plan to do any traveling this summer. New for 2026 we have community memberships for those that are not interested in the membership benefits and just want to help support the trails you use. The memberships are an essential way to help fund work the organization does for access to equitable recreation around the region.
Please visit our membership page to review all of the options.

Trail Update - Weekend of
February 21st

The conditions out in the BC Zones and the Trails as been excellent over the last 7 days. We have had a bit of warm up over the last 2 day but we are expecting more snow on Friday evening and Saturday. Depending on the amount we receive we plan to go out and groom Saturday or Sunday evening. We made some small improvements to grooming drag to get a more consistent finished surface when going over rollers and it has been showing. Thank you to everyone that has been going out and snowshoe packing other trails in the network. Things look great. If you see any downed tree's please send us a message.

If you have been enjoying the trails or backcountry zones this winter consider becoming or renewing your or membership. We will also have a new non bike membership this season for hikers and walkers. Your membership dollars help fund grooming, snow removal, and ongoing maintenance. These organization invest directly back onto their chapters with grants and programs. We we're just awarded a $5,000 SRAM naming grant through VMBA for the Cross Country multi-use Loop at Stratton Rec for this summer. These funds make huge difference in the quality and quantity of projects we are able to accomplish.

Trail Update - Weekend of
January 31st

The temps have warmed up a bit this week and the sun has made a return. Crosstown received two grooming passes on Sunday evening. We are looking at some potential snow on Sunday and if we get it we will go out again on Sunday evening to do a few passes. The BC zones around the area are skiing pretty good and if we get the predicted snow next week, conditions have the potential to be the best we have seen for some time. For the most up to date conditions please check out the conditions page before you head out.

We are happy to announce that we have received a SRAM Naming grant  for $5,000 through for the Cross Country trail at Stratton Rec. That brings us to $11,000 of the $15,000 needed for this 1.2 mile adaptive/family friendly loop. The trail will follow some cool terrain lower on the property that will not require as much climbing as the trails on the upper part of the property. In march we will be launching a few ways you can help support this project next summer but in the meantime we are currently accepting donations through VMBA  , Venmo and Gofundme

Have a great weekend.

Trail Update - Weekend of
January 31st

We received anywhere from 12 to 16 inches of snow depending on elevation and aspect, Things are looking really good out in the BC ski zones right now. However there are some extremely cold temp predicted for the weekend so please plan and dress accordingly if you head out to enjoy the conditions. Unfortunately when heading out to try and groom on Tuesday our Executive Director re-injured an existing  knee injury and is still waiting for to have full range of motion and put full weight on it. We hoping that maybe Sunday or Monday he will be able to go out but until then please

We are happy to announce that SoVTA one of 241 organizations selected to receive a $6000 Two For The Trails grant from Athletic Brewing Company in 2025. Named after Athletic Co-Founder and CEO Bill Shufelt's family tradition of taking two brews to toast post-trail adventures, this program gives back up to $2 million annually to protect and restore outdoor spaces across the globe. Grant funds will be used to help partially fund the new Cross-country Loop at Stratton Rec this summer. Which puts us almost at the halfway point to the $15,000 we need to complete the trail. We will have a bunch of cool ways to support the revitalization project at the Rec Area in a few weeks but in the meantime we are currently accepting donations through VMBA  , Venmo and Gofundme

We are at the end of the year and SoVTA would like to thank everyone that has helped to make our multi-use trails great this season. The trails and network would not be what it is without your support. Enjoy the holiday and we will see you in the new year.

We have received just under 3" of super low density snow overnight which should help cover up some of the ice we are hoping that we get some more snow next we and we can begin grooming for the season.

Our 2025 annual report complete and is up on the website. It is a great way to see what we have accomplished, what we are working on and how our funding dollars are being used to develop and maintain our trail network.

We can not thank everyone enough for the support over the last year. We have come very close to our end of year fundraising goal of $12,000 with just $2000 remaining. So if you are looking for an end of year tax write off now is the time. We are currently accepting donations through the links in our profile.

Trail Update - Weekend of
December 20th

We have received just under 1" of rain with the temps starting to drop and we are hopeful things will freeze up over night. If you head out on the trails tomorrow we recommend micro spikes and studded tire. There may be some open water on on some crossing so please be careful and if you start to leave track please turn back. We need for the snowmobile trails to open for the season to get to the various pods in the network for grooming to begin and we will see how the weather shapes up as we head into the holidays
Please visit the Conditions Page for the most up to date conditions.

As we close in on the new year we are just $2000 away from our fundraising goal of $12,000 for the General Fund. This fund will helps cover the cost associated with grooming the trails, keeping the lots plowed and the trails clear of blowdowns during the winter season. Without your help we won't have the resources to make sure our staff and volunteer have what they need to make the trails and backcountry zones accessible. To help us hit our goal for the year and get over the finish line, till the end of the year we will include a SoVTA hat or shirt of your choice for any donation over $125.

We can not thank everyone enough for the support over the last year. It has been amazing to see so many different types of users and age ranges out enjoying the trails. Let's keep the momentum going and
