The Gloucester County Chapter of the ASNJ was organized to encourage the study of indigenous and historic archaeology in Gloucester Co. NJ.

We meet every other month (September - May) at the Riverwinds Community, 1000 Riverwinds Dr. West Deptford, NJ Please feel free to contact us @ (856) 534-3304 for upcoming events, club information, donations or cultural research questions. The Gloucester County Chapter of the Archaeological Society of New Jersey holds meetings, exchanges ideas and information, participates in field and laboratory projects, educates our youth and encourages membership to the Chapter and the Archaeological Society of New Jersey. Membership is open to any and all who are interested in the intelligent conservation of archaeological resources within Gloucester County. Join us and help preserve a little of the past for the future!

We’re Back! Come join us on Wednesday November 4, 2026 as we introduce our very own GC ASNJ President, Eugene Andrews as he discusses “A Look At The Halfpence” The most commonly used coinage in post Colonial America…

We will begin promptly at 6:30 PM at the Riverwinds Community Center, 1000 Riverwinds Drive, West Deptford. We hope you can attend!

It started as a brisk cold morning but turned into a beautiful day for the 18th Century Field Day at Red Bank Battlefield. Kudos to our very own Guy DiGiugno for being there to represent the club and educating the masses as he has done many time before…

Everyone enjoyed viewing artifacts from our past member, the late Bob Friedel, a friend of Guys’s father’s who introduced Guy to metal detecting in the mid 60’s! It was great to see members show up to help in the afternoon as well and a pleasant surprise visit from my Lenni-Lenape friend.

A special thanks as always to Jennifer Janofsky, Rowan Students, and Mary Cummings whom works so hard to get events set up!

The Gloucester County Chapter of the Archaeological Society of New Jersey will be making its 38th year appearance at the 18th Century Field Day at Red Bank Battlefield on October 18, 2026.

All members are welcome to attend and participate. Festivities begin at 10 AM. We will be located by the historic Whitall House. Always a fun and educational time for our members and the public!

This Saturday, September 19th at the River Winds Community Center. The Gloucester County Chapter of the Archaeological Society of New Jersey will be displaying some Native American Artifacts at the annual West Deptford Family Fun Day. We will be there with the West Deptford Environmental Commission. Come join us for a fun & educational experience!

A Quick Meeting Update:

Just a friendly reminder that our Wednesday, September 2nd meeting has been cancelled due to floor refinishing in the meeting rooms at The Riverwinds Community.

We’ll take a little break and resume our meeting in November. We look forward to seeing everyone then!

It was a great day to display some artifacts and discuss history with guests who attended the “Family Archeology Day” at Red Bank Battlefield. Thank you Dr. Jen Janofsky and Archeologists Wade Catts for your support and dedication teaching the public about the historic Battle of Red Bank and the important part of history that Fort Mercer played… And as always, a shout out to our long time member, Guy DiGiugno for setting up this amazing display!

We would like to thank all of our members and guests who came out to our 28th Annual Artifact Show. Lots of amazing artifacts and buried treasures found by our members, who for many years have discovered the rich history here in Gloucester County. It was a fun and educational experience for all. Our sincere gratitude to good friend and dedicated ASNJ member, Jack Cresson, for his captivating presentation tonight on the history of serrations and the timeline importance of diverse points, spears, and knives employed by Native American Nations. A timeline that showcases the wonderful advancements of cutting tools throughout the years, potentially even revealing the game species they depended on for sustenance. Thank you Jack for this thought provoking exploration of the Native American and the frequently overlooked phases of tool development during their eras. The seminar was genuinely enjoyed by all in attendance!
