International Grooving & Grinding Association - IGGA The International Grooving & Grinding Association (IGGA) is a nonprofit trade association committed

The International Grooving & Grinding Association (IGGA) is a non profit Trade Association founded in 1972 by a group of dedicated industry professionals committed to the development of the diamond grinding and grooving process for surfaces constructed with Portland cement concrete and asphalt. In 1995, the IGGA joined in affiliation with the American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) to repres

ent its newly formed Concrete Pavement Restoration Division. The IGGA / ACPA CPR Division serves as the technical resource and industry representative in the marketing of concrete pavement restoration to DOT’s, municipalities and engineers around the world.

At our annual meeting last Dec., we presented the Operator of the Year, Lester F. Kuzmick and Government Official of the Year awards to honor those who made lasting contributions in 2025 in the grooving, grinding and concrete pavement preservation/restoration industry. Award honorees included Gabriel Chenail, operator and team leader for Construction S.R.B, Ralf Tulke, branch office manager/senior consultant, Otto Alte-Teigeler GmbH ; and Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) (award accepted by Airport Facilities Manager Matthew Zinke). Six months later and their impact is still felt across the industry.

Transport for New South Wales selected low noise , a surface texture inspired by and similar to the properties of next generation concrete surface ( ) technique, for the M12 Motorway, a key gateway to the new Western Sydney International Airport. Applied directly to the continuously reinforced concrete pavement, the surface texture met strict low-noise surface requirements without the added thickness and materials of a traditional asphalt overlay. The result: quieter roads, improved ride quality, better skid resistance and a long-lasting surface built for high-speed, high-demand conditions.

It's a compelling example of how diamond ground surfaces deliver performance where it counts most. Learn more: https://ow.ly/oSjT50Z7nlb

DOT engineers often hesitate to test pavement friction due to concerns about litigation. However, federal protections encourage comprehensive data collection without fear of liability. Under Federal Law 23 USC 407, safety data collected for highway safety programs is protected from being used in court proceedings. This ensures DOTs can focus on improving safety without legal exposure. https://ow.ly/f9az50Z4RbE

According to Hessam AzariJafari of the MIT Concrete Sustainability Hub, the industry has focused heavily on vehicle efficiency while paying far less attention to the roads those vehicles travel on. That gap may overlook one of the largest energy-saving opportunities in transportation.

Not only is concrete a durable, long-lasting pavement material, it is also a highly resilient asset. Its physical properties influence fuel use, urban heat, carbon uptake and even energy storage potential. Watch the TEDxBoston video for a deeper look at how concrete can support smarter, more sustainable infrastructure planning. https://ow.ly/6vyI50Z4RSx

In late March, IGGA’s Nick Davis joined ACPA-PA’s John Becker in Pittsburgh for the 2026 Emerging Leaders Spring Leadership Outing. The event was an outstanding success thanks to our host Golden Triangle Construction and sponsors Ecobeton-USA and Certerra. These events are a tremendous opportunity for networking with younger industry representatives.

We encourage IGGA members to send their upcoming standouts to next year's event to start building their professional rolodex and help grow your company’s presence. Learn more: https://ow.ly/5Reo50YXBja
