We are still accepting high school and college students applications for Camp Counselors for Camp Chibikko! If you or anybody that you know enjoy working with children and facilitating/supervising activities; such as crafts, games, lessons, lunches, and more, apply now!

Camp Chibikko is a fun-filled camp where you as a counselor will get the opportunity to play an active role in helping educate and engage campers in fun and interesting ways through cultural and recreational activities.

This week's theme continued from week 1, Natsu no Fuyu (Japanese winter in the summer). This year we incorporated various Japanese winter activities such as making our own hanko (personal seal), kites, and learning about the 12 animals of the zodiac while learning about the Japanese value of Omoiyari (being considerate), Shinsetsu (kindness), and Enryo (to show self-restraint in consideration of others) with a field trip to Mother's Beach.

This year's theme for Camp Chibikko was Natsu no Fuyu (Japanese winter in summer). This year we incorporated various Japanese winter activities such as Oshogatsu (Japanese New Year) and Setsubun (Change of the season) while learning about the Japanese value of Nebaru (to see things through to the very end). This week's field trip was to Little Tokyo where students got to make their own dango at Fugetsu-Do.

This year's overarching theme is Shizen wo taisetsu ni (protecting the environment) while incorporating the Japanese values of chanto (doing things properly) and mottainai (don't waste). This year we also took a field trip to Eaton Canyon Nature Center and Bike SGV.

This year, we focused on the Japanese values of isshoukenmei (doing your best your entire life), mottainai (don't be wasteful), and okaeshi (giving back) with a field trip to Hurst Ranch and Tanaka Farms.

The theme was Japanese cultural traditions such as Obon festival where we made our very own tye-dye hachimakis and handmade uchiwas, playing traditional obon carnival games, and bon odori. Some other highlights were suica-wari (watermelon smashing game), nagashi somen, making our own sushi and Japanese pizza!

We finished camp with a camp culmination where the campers were presented with certificates and a portfolio filled with artwork they did throughout the week.
