According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), over 5,000 workers died on jobsites in the U.S. in 2024. But that’s only a fraction of the nearly 2.5 million injuries and illnesses recorded during the same year.

On a global scale, as many as 2.6 million workers lose their lives on jobsites every year, according to the International Labour
Organization.

But a suite of serious injury-and-fatality ASTM standards helps organizations reduce risk before incidents occur.

Worker safety is paramount in all industries, and a suite of serious injury-and-fatality standards helps organizations reduce risk before incidents occur.

Jeff Clark, executive director of ASTM's Test Monitoring Center (in photo), celebrated the 50th anniversary of TMC at their facility in Freeport, PA, today.

Surrounded by TMC staff, ASTM senior staff, and members of the TMC Board of Directors, Clark cut the anniversary cake, marking a milestone.

Founded in 1976, the TMC offers reference oil distribution and data handling services to laboratories involved in lubricant testing. They provide a reference oil-based system for the calibration of ASTM Test Methods. Other services include laboratory inspections, rater calibration workshops, and industry-related registration services.

TMC became an affiliate of ASTM in 2021.

Join us in the comments with wishing ASTM's Test Monitoring Center a "Happy 50th Anniversary!"

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the global renewable power capacity is projected to increase almost 4,600 GW over the next 4-5 years..

As the adoption of alternative energies increases at a rapid pace, so does the work and diligence of ASTM’s committees.

AI, robotics, and other innovations may dominate the conversation, but today’s biggest technology challenges happen where emerging technologies intersect.

On the latest episode of ASTM's Standards Impact podcast, host David Walsh and guest Mohsen Seifi, vice president, Critical and Emerging Technologies (CET) division, explore how standards can close gaps and match the rapid pace of innovation. Everything is changing... and fast., explore how standards can close gaps and match the rapid pace of innovation. Everything is changing... and fast.

"A robot that was 3D printed, running on an AI brain with a quantum chip on it. That is not a forecast," says Seifi. "Somebody's building that machine right now. So when people tell me AI is going to change everything, I agree with them."

Learn how standards play a significant part in shaping the future of robotics, AI, advanced manufacturing, and more. Listen wherever you get your podcasts, or visit https://go.astm.org/standards-impact-S4E4
