A recent BRELA Research in Economics and Legal Analytics report, "Standardization and the relationship with innovation in critical and emerging technologies," shows that across 7,000+ advanced manufacturing standards analyzed, ASTM leads all global standards bodies in patent citations (925), ahead of ISO (905), IEC (283), and CEN/CENELEC (154).

Commissioned by ANSI - American National Standards Institute and produced by BRELA Research and Northwestern University, the report examines the link between standards and innovation in critical and emerging technologies.

The report also validates that ASTM's open-membership, consensus-based approach leads to faster development cycles that produce the most innovation-relevant standards.
