Be Saved from this Perverse Generation
Acts 2:36-41

It was a generation that got sucked into evil, hypocrisy, and closed-minded rejection of God and righteousness. If they did not wake up, they were headed for ruin and destruction, and eternal separation from God and all that is good. That would be hell! All they could think of was being accepted by their peers, but peers were all blind and corrupt.

The evidence for Jesus was too strong to reasonably deny. The choice was too clear for those who were not already too hardened. If you let the society pull your heart-strings too much, you will let others (an evil and perverse generation) do all the thinking for you. They will then control your mind, your value system, and take you to hell with them. Is that truly what you want?

Peter was making desparate appeal to "save yourselves" (KJV) or "be saved" (let yourself come into Christ for great blessings that salvage your soul and blesses you with eternal values that save you from ruin). About 3000 were convicted of the truth of Peter's presentation of the evidence, but had not yet been repentant and immersed in Jesus' name for remission of sins (2:38-40). They needed to take a stand against their former mentality. They needed to make a clean break from letting others do the thinking for them. They needed to take Jesus' escape route. So do we today! This too is an evil generation, and we cannot go along with it to eternal destruction.

Our generation is trying to drag us into immorality, perverse values, foolish living, and that to eternal separation from God and all that is truly good. You can see the perversity in TV commersials and storylines that push perversity of morals and try to make them moral and acceptable. They reflect how perverse this generation is becoming. S***m is pushed as good, and righteousness as outdated, evil, and hateful. Be saved from this perverse generation! Take a stand for truth, NOW, before it is too late! Others have taken such a stand in their generation (1 Cor.6:8-10). That proves that you can take such a stand today! God's team wins in the end! Will you stay on the losing side, or will you take a stand with the eternal winners? -TWB

Subjective Spirit Leading

Terry Benton

Subjective “Spirit Leading” is when one is moved by imagined nudging and impulses, then attributes that imagination to the “leading of the Spirit”. It often never is in complete harmony with Spirit “revelation” in the Bible. It is sometimes outright contrary to Spirit guidance through “revelation” (Eph.3:3-5).

It is completely subjective as to whether it is the Holy Spirit instead of a deceiving spirit or just plain human desire and imagination. Yet, you get drawn into the language and thinking that imagines the Lord walking and talking with you, and then you start saying “the Lord told me this” or “the Lord showed me this”.

Francis Chan offers stories from those who have experienced “real encounters” with God. He says each of us has the choice every day "to depend on yourself, to live safely, and to try to control your life. Or you can live as you were created to live—as a temple of the Holy Spirit of God, as a person dependent on Him, desperate for God the Spirit to show up and make a difference." Yet, he is basically telling people to imagine the Spirit “showing up” in some emotion-driven and imagination-perceived way, and all such imaginations automatically becomes self-confirmation that the Holy Spirit instead of Satan as an angel of light is doing this “showing up”.

Beth Moore is another that uses this imagination-driven approach where her imagination of talks with God become conversations with God in which she reports “what God told me”. This kind of thinking is very dangerous, and yet some of our brethren are jumping on the band-wagon of these kind of authors and speakers and promote them as truly guided by God.

The real “Holy Spirit” showed up in guiding the apostles into “all truth”. He revealed and confirmed “the faith once for all delivered to the saints” – Jude 3-4; Heb.2:1-4. He powerfully leads through that revelation (Heb.4:12; Eph.3:3-5). When we are listening to the Spirit in scriptures used correctly we are listening to the voice of the real Holy Spirit.

Imaginations must be cast down and not exalted to the level of God’s word. When a person does not “abide in the doctrine of Christ” but gives greater or equal guiding authority to their imagination of conversations with God, they have quit “holding fast to the Head” (Col.2:19) and have “intruded into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind” (Col.2:18). This is “empty deceit” because it imaginary conversations with God told as if it happened in reality, and this is a form of lying since God did not actually tell them anything. It is purely adult form of make-believe and empty of real revelation. Be careful of those who promote such.

All “Past, Present, and Future” Sins?

I don’t know how many times I have heard preachers, when talking about getting full forgiveness of sins, say “that means all past, present, and future sins are forgiven at the cross.” Let us study the scriptures on this matter. The Bible does NOT say or imply that all past sins, all present sins, and all future sins are already forgiven. Think about that. It does not SAY it anywhere. That ought to cause us to be hesitant to say what the Bible does not say. Speak as the oracles of God (1 Peter 4:11). If the oracles of God never say it, then we have no business saying what the Bible does not say.

Secondly, the Bible does not IMPLY it. In fact, it says and implies the opposite. Simon, who had been a sorcerer before his baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus, sinned again after his initial forgiveness (Acts 8:13,18-24) was told to repent of his new sin “that the thought of your heart MAY BE forgiven you.” His past sins had been forgiven at faith and baptism, but his new sins were not forgiven until he repents and prays for forgiveness. This shows that when preachers say, “all past, present, and future sins are forgiven,” they are teaching the opposite of the Bible. The Bible never says it, and the Bible actually denies it. A red flag ought to go up in your mind when you hear someone today say what the Bible denies.

Thirdly, if all sins, past, present, and future, are already forgiven, then all sins of unbelief are forgiven. Even high-handed sins. I sinned high-handedly in my past. But only when I repented were my past sins forgiven. No sins are forgiven automatically without repentance and confession (1 John 1:7-9). If all sins (past, present, and future) are forgiven then ALL MEN are forgiven automatically. Thus, universal salvation is automatically in place. Yet Jesus said that the majority of people are going the road to destruction (Matt.7:13f). How can ANYONE go to destruction if all sins (past, present, and future) are already forgiven? Be careful of those who teach things that directly and indirectly go against clear Bible teaching. We are forgiven of all our past sins when through faith in Jesus we repent and are baptized in His name “for remission of sins” (Acts 2:38-41). You are then forgiven of actual sins committed, not future sins. In Christ you have the blessing of forgiveness as you sin then confess them penitently (Acts 8:22-24; 1 John 1:7- 2:2). As we seek forgiveness, we receive forgiveness, but all present and future sins are not automatically forgiven, else we can even develop an evil heart of unbelief (Heb.3:12) and still be saved. The Bible shows that we can fall from grace (Gal.5:1-4; 2 Peter.2:20ff) and be worse off than before. There is no such doctrine in the Bible as the doctrine that all people are automatically forgiven of all past, present, and future sins. That is false assurance, and nobody needs false assurance. High Priest Before AD 70

Our AD 70 Hyper Preterists claim that the kingdom came in AD 70, and that Jesus did not begin His reign until that point in time when the temple was destroyed in Jerusalem in AD 70. Further, they have two laws and two systems operating from AD 30-70. They have both laws in place and fully binding by God. This would mean that Jews were fully bound to keep following the Levitical priest system while also following Jesus as High Priest. They would be bound by the dietary rules of the Old Testament while also being free to eat all meats under Christ. They sin and don’t sin in the same acts. Here are some facts that totally refute the Hyper-preterists:
1. People were translated into the kingdom long before AD 70 (Col.1:13). Therefore, the kingdom came before AD 70.
2. Christ CAME (past tense) as High Priest – Heb.9:11 – This would have been unlawful for Jesus to do before AD 70 when they say Jesus removed the law and the prophets. If Jesus became High Priest BEFORE fulfilling the law, then He lied in Matt.5:17f. Hyper-preterists say that AD 70 was when the law and prophets were completely fulfilled. Jesus could not, according to them, divert people from obeying the Law UNTIL it was all fulfilled. But they misapply this passage in an effort to deny the Law of Moses was fulfilled and nailed to the cross (Col.2:13-16; Eph.2:15). Jesus could not be a lawful High Priest without first a “change of the Law” (Heb.7:11-12). The fact that Jesus “changed the Law” way before AD 70 and became our High Priest, proves that whatever He needed to “fulfill” first was fulfilled before AD 70. That change of Law took place at Pentecost AD 30, not at AD 70.
3. Christ CAME (past tense) with a greater and more perfect tabernacle (Heb.9:11) long before AD 70. But, the reformation from an earthly to a spiritual tabernacle could not be lawful if the old tabernacle was still binding. If Jesus set up a new tabernacle, then all Jews were obligated to leave the old earthly tabernacle and become part of the new spiritual tabernacle. All Jews were obligated to Jesus when Jesus started His church, and no Jews were obligated to keep the earthly covenant and tabernacle going. Whatever Jesus needed to “fulfill” in order to change the Law, was fulfilled long before AD 70.
4. Jesus CAME with His own blood (Heb.9:12). The blood of bulls and goats were no longer needed or required when Jesus came with His own blood. But, Jesus came with His own blood and washed away sins long before AD 70. Therefore, whatever Jesus needed to “fulfill” in order to change the Law and start applying His own blood, was completed by Pentecost AD 30, 40 years before the fall of Jerusalem in AD 70.
5. He entered the Most Holy Place once for all (Heb.9:12). This was to obtain eternal redemption for all. No animal sacrifice was required after this point. Therefore, two laws were not requiring two different things once Jesus entered the Most Holy Place once for all. Whatever needed to be fulfilled before Jesus could lawfully “change the Law” and provide eternal redemption by His High Priestly activity of going into the real Most Holy Place was fulfilled at Pentecost of AD 30. Nothing was provided in AD 70 that pertained to our eternal redemption. Jesus provided it all when He entered the Most Holy place in AD 30.
6. Jesus HAS an unchangeable priesthood (Heb.7:24) and this was before AD 70. He did not begin one later, in AD 70. He has one that began around AD 30. “We HAVE such a High Priest (8:1) who IS seated at the right hand of the Majesty in the heavens.” His work was already in progress.
7. The “true tabernacle” was already erected (8:2) long before AD 70. No one was obligated to keep using the earthly, symbolic tabernacle. Unbelief was the only reason Jews were still using it. God was not holding them under obligation to keep it going.
8. He is the Mediator of a better covenant (8:6). No one was obligated to the inferior covenant once the better covenant was in place. The new covenant was in place after Jesus died on the cross (9:15-17). When the better High Priest and better covenant was lawfully in place, the old system was not binding at all. The only thing that kept Jews going to the earthly Levitical priests was unbelief. God was not obligating them to keep it going till AD 70.
9. He was KING at the same time that He was High Priest. According to the prophecy of Zechariah 6 and Psalm 110 He would be KING and Priest at the same time. Priest on His THRONE, and in place as such “after the order of Melchizedek” (who was king and priest in one). So, you cannot have Jesus as active High Priest in AD 30 but not active KING until AD 70. No! He was king and priest at the same time. “Now BOTH Lord and Christ (Anointed)” (Acts 2:36). The counsel of peace (Zech.6:13) comes from Jesus being BOTH king and priest. The counsel of peace was issued in the remission of sins that began to be enjoyed in Acts 2:38ff. If peace was enjoyed, it was because Jesus was BOTH king and priest from Pentecost (Acts 2) forward. If people rejoiced in having remission of sins before AD 70, then Jesus was king and priest before AD 70. This is further proof that the AD 70 brethren are in grave error. If Jesus was High Priest in action long before AD 70, then He was KING long before AD 70. This is another powerful scripture blow to their whole stack of cards.

The Hyper-preterist would like us to think that there were two laws bound upon Jews by obligation of God for a forty-year period. That would be impossible! You cannot be obligated to two systems at the same time. You cannot be obligated to believe in Jesus as the High Priest and Mediator of a better covenant and at the same time be responsible to keep the earthly, Levitical priesthood going and supplying animal sacrifices under an inferior system and law. They twist a LOT of scriptures to try to make their theory work, but it does not work.

The premise that every kind of promise in the Old Testament had to be fulfilled before the Law of commandments could cease to be binding is not true (Eph.2:15). If it was true, then Jesus sinned by abolishing many portions of the Law before every promise was fulfilled. You don’t want to go further with that idea. Further, every promise was not fulfilled in AD 70. Some prophesies of the fall of Rome were fulfilled after AD 70. But every command had to be fulfilled by Jesus in order to be a perfect offering. When Jesus filled up the requirements of the Law, He filled up the typological offerings and set in motion the new and better covenant, and He did that before AD 70. Jesus removed obligation to the temple and its earthly priesthood at the cross, and then He visibly removed that system corrupted by unbelief in AD 70. Obligation was to Jesus, His superior covenant and provisions from Pentecost forward. Do not let men deceive you! – Terry W. Benton
