A legend.
Today, on Marian Wright Edelman’s birthday (our Founder’s Day), we celebrate our founder and president emerita of Children’s Defense Fund.
Mrs. Edelman’s life’s work has helped shape the modern children’s movement. As the first Black woman admitted to the Mississippi Bar, a civil rights attorney, and counsel for the Poor People’s Campaign, she spent decades turning a fierce commitment to justice into action for children, families, and communities across the country.
Her vision continues to guide us. Children must be protected, cherished, listened to, and placed at the center of our nation’s priorities.
Today, we honor Mrs. Edelman’s leadership, celebrate the movement she helped build, and carry forward the charge to serve children.
