Yeah, it was a liiiiitle chilly. But we didn’t let that stop us from bundling up and gathering at Matlack Florist for the last outdoor meetup of the year. (In before the first frost!)

Thanks to everyone who came out on Saturday! We had lots of good horror representation this time around (‘tis the season!). The Most Unique Book award goes to a ’culinary and philosophical’ book, HOW TO COOK A WOLF (which also sounds spooky).

Big thanks to our friends at Matlack Florist and Garden Center for the hot apple c***r and the fire. We’ll see you next year!

I always enjoy an Ashley Herring Blake romance, and TAKE A CHANCE, SASHA SINCLAIR adds in an investigation into haunted woods and a family’s witchy history. The cover is gorgeous and autumnal too!

Did you know that West Chester has an amazing French restaurant hidden in a basement? It’s like a delicious little speakeasy. And for our November meetup, Mistral french & fast will be our hosts!

Word has definitely gotten around about this place, but if you haven’t tried them yet, now is your chance. Everything I’ve had there — from sandwiches to specials to soups to desserts — has been incredible.

They’re located in the basement of the First Presbyterian Church, who are also serving as our hosts. (Otherwise, Mistral is all takeaway service.) In return, I’m asking everyone to bring a donation for their community pantry. The pantry is most in need of personal care items — toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, toilet paper, and feminine care items. Such small items that can make a big difference.

Mother Nature must be a reader because we had a picture perfect Fall day at Art in the Woods yesterday. It was a really peaceful meetup, soaking in music and art and the best weather October can bring.

Thanks so much to Chester County Art Association for the invite. This event happens twice a year — and it’s safe to say we’ll be back! But don’t forget that they’re open year round… there’s the gallery, a shop, classes… definitely check them out.

We hit whatever the Genre Log equivalent of bingo is — a book from each genre! I hope everyone had a good time. And if you didn’t make it, please join us at the next one. Enjoy the rest of your rainy Sunday!

We’re headed back to Matlack Florist in a week… this time with 1000% more pumpkins! I stopped by this week and the garden center and the store are all decked out for Fall.

For this meetup, please bring a portable chair or blanket/beach towel. There are a few chairs and benches, but if you have your own, we can make sure everyone has a place to sit. You’ve got a choice of the covered area or the open grass. And if the weather cooperates we can have the fire pit going!

And don’t forget they have a Little Free Library, if you have anything you’d like to contribute. Let’s set a record for Most Flannel at a Silent Book Club meetup!

We’ll be meeting in the woods this weekend, but one thing we won’t be doing is going up any random staircases we find there.

I love a theme, so I couldn’t resist a re-read of THE STAIRCASE IN THE WOODS. It’s one of my favorite horror subgenres — the horrors of real life and what people do to each other. It’s brutal, depressing, tragic, and so cinematic. So yeah, my kind of Fall read… and definitely something to read outside in the woods.

What are you bringing to the meetup on Saturday? Any woods-themed books you’d recommend?

Do you have any must-see bookshops or libraries when you travel? Here are some bookish highlights from Dublin, Ireland. If you’re a fan of old books and history — and if your allergies can handle it — you must go to Marsh’s Library. Opened in 1707 and stocked with books dating back to the 15th century that have literally survived bullets. It was gorgeous.

For far more modern books, I went to Eason, The Winding Stair Book Shop, Dubray Books, and Books Upstairs.

We are a week away from the next Silent Book Club meetup at Art in the Woods! (I might not be in the U.S. at the moment, but that doesn’t mean I’ve stopped obsessively checking the weather forecast back home. Looks great so far, yeah!?)

11:30-12:30: Quiet Reading Hour.

12:30-1:00: Chat with your fellow book readers (if you’d like to) and definitely take a stroll through the woods to enjoy the art and meet the artists. The event lasts until 4:00!

Happy anniversary to us! Thanks so much to everyone who came out for a Monday Happy Hour meetup to kick off Year Two… and a big thank you to Cutter and Cannon Spirits for opening just for us!

I loved seeing their cozy back room full of readers, both familiar faces and new ones. I’ve checked my ‘official records’ and in all of the meetups we’ve had, we’ve only had one time where two people were reading the same book. Well, last night we had TWO twin sets of books: The Unknown and The Calamity Club. And once again, General Fiction was what our readers were reading most.

Next up, we’re manifesting great Fall weather for Art in the Woods on October 10th and Matlack Florist Garden Center on October 17th. Hope to see you there! (And Happy Fall!)

Because my love for Fall is unparalleled, we’re going back to Matlack Florist Garden Center for another October outdoor meetup. If you were with us there in June, you already know they’ve got a calming outdoor space, a gorgeous shop, and a Little Free Library. And if you haven’t been, this is your sign to check it out.

Please bring a portable chair or blanket or beach towel for this meetup. Matlack Florist has both covered and not-covered areas. It’s the closest I’ll get to a pumpkin patch meetup… and if we ask nicely we might get a fire pit involved!
